Try to make site more non-IE browser friendly:

I use Opera, and just found out that I cant upload avatars etc with it, the pictures get refused (This is not a jpg file), but when I used IE it worked fine.

I'll let you know if I find more bugs with Opera regarding the site.

But there are also other browers out there, and they might have the same problems.

I do believe that all non IE browsers have problems with uploading avatars. Firebird also has problems. I already told nogame about the Mozilla Firebird problem.

Mozilla/Firebird uploads get refused too, which is weird because the browser you're using has nothing to do with wether or not the file you're uploading is a jpeg.

I'm not bashing other browsers, just curious as to why people choose something other than the default IE that comes with just about every computer?

I've never used anything except IE and just wondering what these other ones have over it.

its faster
blocks pop-ups
looks better
you can mod it
its more secure...
though i just h8 ie because.... i do? i h8 the way that IE is an intergrated part in windows so that you cannot do anything at all, so even if you use Mozilla or Firefox, you would still prolly get virus through IE...

Re: Try to make site more non-IE browser friendly:

Why don't I like IE? A whole host of reasons, I suppose...

It renders pages slowly, loves to lock up and take other apps with it, no tabbed browsing (tabbed browsing rocks hard, IMO), lousy cookie control, no pop-up/under control without 3rd party apps which could have unwanted side-effects or be less than benign. And ActiveX is the spawn of satan.

I don't trust the browser to be secure, nor do I trust the company behind it to be honest and prompt about correcting problems; let alone proactive.

Even the department of homeland security and CERT have both publically stated that IE is dangerous and should not be used.

They stopped forward development on the browser after dominating the "market" because they no longer had a need to improve on it. It still doesn't support CSS2 or even render png images properly, and adherence to the published standards that it does support is spotty at best. Why wait on them to find a threat to their brand before they actually do something useful?

Because of the problems with standards adherence, web authors often have to code specifically for IE in order to get the appearance they want. Too often they do this to the exclusion of proper markup (or don't even realize their code is actually incorrect), essentially forcing visitors to use IE.

It also tries to "correct" mistakes in HTML, which is a nice thought and all... but that leads to problems where IE does what it wants and not what it's told, then you have authors practically resorting to alchemy to get the look they want and further breaking the page for other browsers. It's also contrary to the prescribed approach of assuming nothing and rendering the page as instructed.

Just because it came with Windows doesn't mean I have to settle for it. As far as I'm concerned, it's defective.
