Feedback?

Ok, you may have read my eariler post about no one helping, and that still stands but I am trying to figure out a few things.

First, I have been chatting with some players online about the new colusseum that has been built and honestly the general feel I am getting from people is that it looks cool, but really it was hyped way too much. I have yet, really, to click on someone and see and attention or progress in there arena section. Is anyone going? I can never find anyone on playing in the arenas since I began checking. Why?
Second, Does the lack of attention to the arenas come from not really gainging anything from the battles. Apperently you can buy temp powers, but you have to spend money to acquire powers, and you don't receive insp. ehch. or xp? Not even a badge...and yes if badges were able to be gained at the areans I would BE THERE?
Third: and this is trivial, I wish the powers that be could get rid of the unfinished badges that are not being offered anymore from my badge window...its really depressing knowing that I came so close to finishing the badge and now the monster/s are not around any more....
talk amoungst yourselves.

Re: Feedback?

Arena Badges: As I understand it, there will be badges available in the arena. I'm not sure when/how/whatever, but they said before I4 came out that there would be arena related badges.

Incomplete Badges: I think the reason the incomplete badges are still there are that the events may happen again, or at the very least there may be new events with the same creature types.

Yea, I agree with Ron. Even though I joined up in Feb. and I missed the Winter badges, I have always felt that those badges will come around at the next Halloween or next Winter.

Re: Feedback?

As far as the Arena goes, I tried it a couple of times when it first appeared, but the lack of interesting goals, other than braggin rights of winnin an arena match, have kept me from wanderin back. I would much rather get another badge or gain another level than go into the arena, for now at least. When my primary reaches 50, however, it may interest me more.

Re: Feedback?

Soo, is the arena really that big a deal? I am asking in hopes of hearing from those who particpate in arena battles. Is it secrety popular, or has it yet to catch on?

Re: Feedback?

At first I used it because of all the hype, and it was pretty cool, I'll admit. But I'm afraid it's gone the way of the dance party. Everyone likes it, but rarely uses it. Now I like to use it to challenge my buds (I.E. "What? No WAY that nova would kill me!") that I already am prety chummy with.

Re: Feedback?

I tried going to the arena last week, but I was the only one there. It seems to be going the way of the dodo. (Appropriate, considering the amount of thought that seems to have gone into it.)

Re: Feedback?

Hummm,

Yes, the arenas were a nice idea, but too little, too late to draw in PKers. {Player Killers} There are groups of people that live for killing other players, but since there was no such action in CoH for so long, they drifted to other games. Since you gain nothing for arena batles, why bother? Add to the fact that I play mostly Controllers and you will not see Whimcycle or Crannberry in an arena, other than to pick up some inspirations.

Re: Feedback?

The main purpose of the arena is to test PvP for the upcoming City of Villains. I'm not sure what the badge thing is about in there, I don't know what you have to do to get them. It's also handy for supergroups to test out powers and "train" and such.

Re: Feedback?

I tried the arena out and lost interest quickly. Besides silencing smack talk, there is no point to it. I feel it just created more lag for the respective zones the arenas are in.

Re: Feedback?

Never did it, planned to when things settled but probably wont bother.

I realize they didnt want bloodbaths but somehow fighting a buddy or a stranger wouldn't give me the satisfaction of pouncing on a KSer or a big mouth know it all.

Also with all the artificial balance rules, like slap the hulk and knock off a toggle, I mean c'mon brawl knocking a toggle off an invuln tank that is used to being pounded on by dozens of +5's (or more) yeah that makes sense.

NO Xp.

No advantage to people who earned higer levels. i mean you should "exemp" down on hp and damage, but maybe keep your full list of powers or something. Because in my scraps canse i respeced and took practiced brawler late since i needed no slots, so if i exemp lower than about 40 i have no defense against hods and such, no thanks, and i'm sure not going to respec for the arena.

wow the list goes on and on. i think not only did it make the servers lag, but it was dev time spent that could have been used elsewhere fixing issues or coming up with new and exciting ideas.

What Ron was saying is that this was placed for CoV purpose.

1) Up until now we fought NPC's, very static and cold NPC's. Pre-determined attacks/defenses and no on the spot thinking. Now with Arenas we get a chance to experience and learn to play against Live opponents. With CoV we get Base Raids and PvP zones, now it would be a major problem if we were just dumped into a game with no PvP experience to draw from. Not everyone has played a WoW or Lineage 2 with PvP environments.

2) Stability, making sure the game is prepared for the PvP aspect of gaming. Power changes, power looks, animations and such all needed to be resolved before CoV is released. The smoother the transition equal less problems for us and CoV reps.

I dont hate the arenas just rather earn XP and Influence instead, arenas are a side task for me, when bored. I can tell you that the Badges should be on Test and release to Live soon. Watch out for news concerning this on the site.

Re: Feedback?

Personally, I believe more people would use the arena if you could fight huge battles against the computer, not PvP.

Like your team would have to survive a rikti invasion, and judged on time, overall damage, survival ratio, or a whole slew of other stats to track.

Or you could set up things like "Hero & Sidekick" matches, where a hero and his/her sidekick take on an AV by themselves, or some other unique monster similar to the Winter Lord.

Or my favorite idea would be to drop a big group of heroes in an area that continusally spawns Skulls...whichever hero (or group of heroes even) killed the most skulls in a certain amount of time was the winner!!

It just seems to me that the Arena would be a great place to work as a "Danger Room" sorta like what the X-Men use in the comics to pratice their abilities. There could be a series of exercises (missions) that a hero can undertake that would be like "Kill 50 Hellions in 5 minutes" then that opens up the next one "Kill 50 Lost in 5 minutes" or whatever, and on and on. "Navigate thru a warehouse without agro'ing any villians" or "Deactive 10 bombs in the middle of a huge fight in 20 minutes" or something equally as difficult.

Anyone else have any good ideas on making the Arena more of a popular place??

Re: Feedback?

Yeah I like the danger room idea. Good place for SG's to train and get used to each others strengths and weaknesses.

Re: Feedback?

Badges will help the arena become more popular. Also, has the ranking system started yet or are they waiting for that to pass test first? I think they were waiting for a majority of the balance issues to be ironed out before starting the rankings.

I do like the idea of large group battles against computer controlled mobs...however that kinda defeats the purpose for the arena. The reason the arena was made was to test and implement a PvP system. The problem is, most of the people who are very interested in PvP took off for WoW and EQ and so on, since CoH didn't have it.

I wouldn't say the arenas have failed, just that the demand really wasn't there for it. When they add some form of reward (badges) they will become more popular.

The problem with earning influence and experience in the arena is that there becomes the issue of abusing it by using 2 accounts to powerlevel characters.
