Hey all! well im pretty much new to all of CoH just entering my second month. Well my main toon was a scrapper and i pretty much solod him all the way up to lvl 24 so havent really had much experience with what jobs defenders should do. so could anyone enlighten me by stating the power set and if they are better for debuffing, buffing ect. ect. many thanks Aticus.

There isn't much to it:
Empathy - healer
Force Field - preventive medicine, so to speak
Kinetic - mostly buffer
Radiation - mostly deduffer
Dark - such a debuffer it's practically a Controller
Storm - balanced between buff & debuff
All except FF have some kind of heal. Empathy, of course, has Heal Other and Heal Aura. Storm has Heal Other (called 02 Boost), while Radiation has Heal Aura. The aura is handy for healing yourself, but you have to follow around teammates to heal them.
Kinetic and Dark both have To Hit heals, meaning they only work by stealing Endurance from a foe. The Kinetic heal centers around the foe, while Twilight Grasp centers on the Dark 'Fender. Both work as self heals, if that's what you need.
Bubblers can buff teammates with force fields before a battle, which allows them to concentrate on offense during the battle (to the extent that a Defender can deal damage, that is).
These are very general job descriptions (for example, Radiation has some powerful buffs, and Kinetic has some decent debuffs). But now that you've asked, it's clear that the Defender powersets differ from each other more than the other ATs, I think.

Yea i can see. well thanks alot great help. i noticed aswell that only emp defends have the same kinda build but other than them its all totally different.

I'm rather partial to Dark Defenders. They're kind of the "jack of all trades" defenders. They have a pretty cool rez too.

I meant its only Empathy defenders who usually have stick to a strict build. All the other power types for the Defender AT you can experiment without having to worry about another defenders having the same build. Sorry about the last post i just checked it and it does not make sense at all. I hope this clears it up for you.

Yeah defenders are one of the few AT's that get asked what there power set is.When is the last time you asked a blaster or what type he is before inviting. Tanks and controllers get asked occasionally but usually only after the invite if at all.
I have a dark and an emp, I favor the dark but the emp is fun as well and broadcasting EMP def usually gets picked up real fast by a team.
