| Slotting Tough & Defences For A Fire Tank |
|
|
|
Ok, so I got tough for my fire tank on the way to getting weave. I got a few questions.
1. With 6 slotted fire shield and plasma shield, is tough worth slotting or do I pretty much have max resistance to type of damage that tough absorbs?
2. How many slots on weave before you're wasting slots?
3. Is Combat Jumping worth putting any slots on? Remember, Fire Tanks have only Damage Resistance, and no actually defence so on the surface it looks like CJ and Weave are it.
I know that my offence with Burn is probably my biggest defence. But, at the same time, I want to be the touhgest I can be as a tank when in big teams. Thanks.

Do you have Healing Flames yet? The ability to heal yourself when you DO take damage is part of being as tough as you can be.

I have a lvl 50 fire tank that has the following 6 slotted:
Fire Shield, Plasma Shield, Tough, Combat Jump, Weave, and Burn. I also have Acrobatics, but only one slotted. Healing Flames is also very useful to have a few slots in as well. With these defenses, there aren't too many villains that can do alot of damage to me. I have done my fair share of herding like this and have found this set up to be most effective. I haven't ever needed a healer to do Dreck herding runs, so I must have something right as I see other Fire tanks always lookin for a healer for their Dreck runs. So hopefully this answers your question. If not, I'll be more than happy to help you with anything else about the fire tank you want to know. Happy Burning!

I absolutly have healing flames! :-)
So it sounds like from what you said, combat jumping is worth slotting?

Combat Jumping adds +Res to Melee and Range attacks. Until you get Weave, Combat Jumping is the only think that enhances Melee and Range Resistance. So adding slots to CJ may be a good idea however the boost per slot is very small. So if you want to slot CJ you might want to wait until you can afford to use those extra slots on something with such a small payback.
Just my two cents.
On another note for Fire Tanks; with the nerf of Taunt does anyone have any good suggestions to overcome the mobs fear of Burn?

By adding a few Taunt slots to your blazing aura you maintain a little better aggro while setting burn patches. This won't always stop them from running, but most villain types will run and come right back to where they were standing in the burn patch.

I have 5 slotted burn right now and what I do to maintain pretty good aggro is set taunt on auto. I also have 5 slotted hasten which helps with this as well as helping a lot with healing flames and consume. I'm at 27, and I don't have stamina yet and it's still really no big deal at all yet because I use hasten and consume really well together.
Back to subject though. Under the descriptions of power sets on this website(not opinion part), both Combat Jumping AND Weave have "moderate" (Which I have always found to be 'good') defence to melee and ranged attacks. So, just looking at that alone, it looks like BOTH are excellent powers for a fire tank to have and to multiple slot. Any comments?

All you need is the default slot in tough with a damage resistance SO to max out against smash/lethal damage. Any more slots put into it are wasted unless you throw endurance reducers in it. You can check the numbers yourself by downloading the Hero Planner. I forgot to add that this is only the case if you have fire shield 6 slotted with damage resistance SO's also.
