$3000 laptop, why can't i run the BF2 demo?

Yo, i got a HP laptop.
3.2 Ghz
80GB hard drive
1GB ram
Ati radeon 9000/9100 IGP grapchics card (128 meg)

I open the demo and get black screen. Few seconds later i'm back at desktop.
And i've tried what Dikko_R_dam said for the GeForce4, didn't work.

and i've already bought the game's pre-order headset!

I need help!

Looks like a mighty big problem. I think what u are looking at here is a long time glitch, since Laptops are low priority as far as gaming on them is concerned. Try Updateing the drivers for everything, CPU,GFX and any other drivers you might have, then uninstall and re-install the game. But this really isnt a laptop game, but try it out.

Also try this weblink, I dont know if the drivers will suport your Radeons or not I I think they will, I run this driver myself and it gives off perfect FPS on any game! Even tho I do have a X800XT

www.omegadrivers.net

WARNING!
These drivers are 3rd party, use these at your own risk! But trust me when I say, they are really kool. I never lose FPS any more not even on doom 3 with high rez.

If that dosent work...........well.........I dont know?

Re: $3000 laptop, why can't i run the demo?

hi, i might have the solution :)

Loading Issues: The most common problem with BF2 is that the game crashes to desktop or goes to a black screen when you first launch it. The reason for this is either incompatible hardware (make sure you meet all the minimum specs), or more usually the fact that you're not running at the default Windows XP refresh rate (60Hz). By default the game tries to launch at 800x600@60Hz initially, so your system must be able to run that same resolution and refresh rate, otherwise the game will abort. If you are using any refresh rate override program/method, disable it (e.g. if you're using Refresh Force, click the 'Restore Original Settings' button and apply). Once you've got the game running, you can then change the resolution to suit your taste in the in-game settings, and importantly you can select a higher refresh rate. Then you can reapply the refresh rate override and the game will launch without any problems. To set a non-standard resolution such as 1280x1024 see the Command Line options under the Advanced Tweaking section.

Demo System Requirements

* Windows XP (32-bit) with Admin rights
* 1.7 GHz Pentium 4 / Athlon XP or greater
* 512 MB or more
* 460MB of HD Space
* DirectX 9.0c compatible (*video)
* DirectX 9.0c compatible (sound)

*Video
Video card must have 128 MB or more memory and one of the following chipsets:

* NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700 or greater
* ATI Radeon 8500 or greater

NOT TRUE! What the guy above me is saying, that you need a graphics card above a Radeon 8500. EEEEEEEEH! WRONG! DO NOT GET RADEON 9000 OR 9001 OR 9200. THEY ALL COME WITH PROBS! I've experianced crashes with the 9200. With the Radeon 9200 you have to update your graphics speed to four x, can't remember how to do it. For the others, I don't know what to do. Plus, you need about 1 gig of ram and 128 mb of ram for you g card. And make sure the g card is not dependent, you need an independent one that feeds off it's own mb of ram.
