QuakeCon 2004 Doom3

As QuakeCon near's by, they send out this E-mail to all their attendees with this bit of interesting info:

QUOTE
\"We're having a DOOM 3 party this year, and want to offer our fans the first
opportunity to compete in a DOOM 3 tournament,\" Todd Hollenshead, CEO, id
Software said. \"NVIDIA is putting up the largest QuakeCon prize package ever,
and topping it off with DOOM 3 prizes that will have the competitors' adrenaline
rushing.\"

Along with the E-mail they stated that there will be $150,000 in prizes total- $40,000 for a 4v4 CTF, and $50,000 for a Q3 1on1. No other tournaments outside the Doom3 one was announced, so does this mean $60,000 for Doom3's tournaments? Should be mighty interesting.

You ever have those days that you know?

Re: QuakeCon 2004 Doom3

You know I am thinking that ID really has something up their sleeves. Think about it this way.

The game has been under development for a friggin long time. Everybody knew the game was going to be revolutionary graphically, and in terms of gameplay. But there was nothing heard of on the multiplayer side. Then ID hints at the multiplayer and gives a teaser of it. And now whamo, not only is it coming out, but there is a tourney for it as well.

That’s a pretty ballsy move by ID software. Which means either they know this game is just going to blow everything else out of the water… or they have lost their minds. I think it’s the former.
