| HELP...Starting a Controller and looking for some good combo suggestions |

|
hey all. I'm thinking of starting a controller and wanted to get an idea of what are some cool combinations there are for them. I've never played a controller before and i'm not really up on every option available. I'm making him for a new SG i created. It's a wrestling theme....Rick Flair will style and profile like no other can...WOOOOOO! Can anyone give me some ideas on a good build to use...

Well dont you think it would be better to make a tanker or a scrapper then?
As for good combos i find Illusion/Empaty a very interesting combo, because at later levels being able to heal your own pets sound like a pretty good deal to me. Also Gravity/Anything goes i found gravity had many good holds. Hope this helps because these are the only controllers i have really tried

All controller types are cool. Their my favorite AT to play. I can help you make a mean @$$ controller with any combo and you'll get plenty of help from lots of other people on this site whatever you go with. Pick what seems cool with a wresting group and go from there.
First thing is I say make him look like a referee. That's what a controller should be in a wrestling ring - a ref!
So, what powers does a ref have? Mind control, of course! Make him a mind/kinetic controller. The mind control looks like he's calling in your teams favor and the kinetics makes it look like the fights are scripted!
And change your whistle key so it says "foul!" instead of "help!"

ok well I've played an ill/emp to 50... it's fun and makes it easy getting a team. It's not much of a controller in the sinse of being great at crowd control, but what you lack in locks you make up for with pets.
Gravity/kinetics I've also heard is a good combo. As well as Gravity/Force Field.
I've heard that mind controllers can be hard if you've never played a controller. And storm, ice and fire trollers paired with anything are noce at crowd control.
I however do agree that if you're going for a wrestling theme Sg... it might be easier to make him like a MA/SR scrapper... or a Invuln/SS tanker.... fits the wrestling idea a bit better.

hey Sapphire Gypsy could you give me some intellect on Flash, beacuse i was think about making an Ill/Emp troller and ive heard mixed opinions about it. How would you slot it and what the accuracy like on it? Also Darth Demise how do you change the words on the macros because i wouldn't mind having one saying ' On Me For Buff' for when i want to use Accelerate Metoabolism on my Rad/Rad Defender.

Ill/Emp is probably the hardest one to solo. Great asset in any team but hard to solo. Good luck...

no problem. I use flash frequently... as an ill/emp you'll only have 3 attacks (including flash) until you get your Epic powers... and then it takes the number to 4 (depending on what EP you get) I personally don't know how you could NOT take flash, it's 1 of the 2 holds we get, if you don't have holds then you're not really a troller.
I had mine, up until recently when I respeced her slotted thusly:
2 acc and 2 hold duration
now those were SO's and were probably +1 for most of the time. I recently respeced her and added another acc to it. it makes it a 69% accurate power as opposed to the 55% it starts out with.
another thing I can suggest to you (if you're trying to figure out how to make the build work the best) is to go to www.joechott.com he's got an updated hero builder that shows the effectiveness of a power both pre and post slotting.
It really depends on how you plan to use your troller. Up until the upper 30's I was support. Once I got my EP's I was soloing like mad and was whipping butt.
How you slot your flash also depends on how you plan on using it. I tend to cast a PA into the mob to draw aggro... then jump in and cast flash... now this was before they made the changes to superior invisability and ytou could cast through it. So NOW you can actually pick up superior invisability prior to PA and can run in with SI and flash.
I've done a bit of testing with the holds, a PA troller doesn't have superior holds, are holds are weak and short lived.... but we make up for it by having a small army with us at all times that does more damage and PA can be used as perma-invincable tanks. Six slotted with recharge and with hasten 5 slotted mine are almost permanant (and 6 slotted hasten makes them permanant I've been told) But using them in that manner at low lvls isn't effective because you dan't have the damage to wipe out a mob before they disappear. At low lvls I had them slotted 3 dmg 3 rech.
Ok I could go on forever about my PA troller. Feel free to ask any more questions about it. I'm always willing to give advice on my favorite hero. :)

Well i am really using my Ill/Emp Controller as part of a duo. The other half being an Invul/SS Tank. My idea with Flash was to Put on Superior Invisibility, then jump into a middle of crowd. Then use the 'Ready!' macro. As soon as i hit it the tank would taunt allowing me to flash without having to worry about taking any aggro. And then at later levels ill just use my Phantom Army if the Tanker is unavailable. Which means i still take no aggro. Do you rekon thet would work?

So My Plan so far is to only get Flash,blind and spectral wounds from the illusion. All the rest on my Empathy powers. Up until i get my pets :) Also do you rekon its possible for me to make a decent Build without Hasten and Fitness. It just gets on my nerves When people check your bio and notice you haven got hasten or Fitness so they stereotype you as a noob. Yes they do have many Pro's and hardly any Con's but surely its possible to get a kickass build without them!?

I suggest hasten only because the recharge time on pets is so long, and stamina because if all your doing is healing you're gonna be wiped out.
I personally have never had anyone think me a n00b because of my hasten and stamina... especially once you start playing a healer and realize that you need it to survice, at least until you get either recovery aura, or concerve power from the EP's. once you have one of those you could fesably drop your stamina, but hasten will propably always be a requirement for a troller. pets recharge is just too long, and those slots are too precious to waste on recharge.
The only powers I have from the illusion set after my respec are sepct. wounds, flash, blind, SI, PA and Phant. I found that the people I teamed with never really wanted group invis. and that spectral terror is fairly useless.
So yes, it's possible to have a good build with using minimal primary powers, as for without stamina and hasten... not so much. it can be a devent build but it'll bever be uber.

on your chat bar select Tab
on the menu it pops up select join channel
type in Gameamp.com and hit the button and you're in. :)

Thanks all for the information....I will actually consider the ref role with the controller....lol. I actually have a Inv/SS tank in the group already and just wanted to be different with character selection. I'll play around with the different options and let you know which one i selected for additional help. Think i'm leaning more towards overall crowd control as we have a emp defender in the group currently. My thoughts are that this hero will mainly be for team play and not for soloing (not sure if a controller can solo a lot of their own missions anyway...lol).

Let me give you the alternate way...
You know the text/chat boxes in the lower left hand corner of your screen? Right click in one of them. A menu with many options will pop up, one of them being Join Channel. Select that, type in Gameamp.com, and you are set. If you are still having problems, I will get you a screen shot when I get home...

I can't see it any where all i see is a list but no join channel. The list states what channels i can switch to. I think ill need a screenie :S

Then you may as well go with DarthDemise's mind/kinetic idea. Mind is really good for crowd control and the whole concept sounds hillariously appropriate.
Also check out the Controller forums on this site. There are some very helpful ideas laying around there for all to see!

I haven't seen it mentioned yet, so I thought I would add my 2 cents. As far as I'm concerned, Illusion/Radiation Emission is the best build for a Controller. The primaries are great, but the secondary set is amazing as well. Just think about it. Radiation Emission has a little bit of everthing: heals (Radiant Aura), buffs (Accelerate Metabolism), great debuffs (Radiation Infection, Enervating Field), resurrect (Mutation), and AoEs (Choking Cloud, Fallout, and EMP Pulse). Once you start slotting Single Origins, you're amazing. Your pets can grab aggro, you can debuff baddies and heal, and your teammates can simply pick a target and smash away. It's an impressive build...

Addendum: You can only have 5 channels going at once. If you are logged into 5, you will have to quit one to get onto a new one.

I have been soloing a Ill/Rad troller (currently lvl 22) and this toon is by far my favorite. Fantastic power sets. The addition of hasten and stamina enable you to really throw it down.

Can you Go over it Step by Step for me please. Im getting really confused. The only channels im on at the moment is all the ones like local, Broadcast, Sg, Team, Tell, Arena, request and Coalition.

ICE ICE BABY !!! I know terrible sorry. But I love ice. I now have Glasher to level 50 WOO HOO !!!! I have ice/bubbles. Ice is GREAT CROWD CONTROL and good defense for team mates. Ice control has a lot of different options. Not just holds, but, ice slick(makes em slip and fall over and over again), Arctic Air (confuses the heck out them so much, they attack eachother and move very slow. Bubbles for your team mates, and protection for you as well. And Jack Frost as your pet. Love it. I have other controllers as well, but I like ice the best.
Besides it looks very cool when you see a bunch of frozen baddies in big ice blocks getting pounded on.

Yea lol what was the original post again. Anyways no we havent had global name given yet. If i remeber rightly you know the little boxes you click on to change the channel your speking in. Well with the release of I4 there was a global one in the set, but somewhere in one of the patces it seems to umm... disapperead. So could they have taken it out of the EU becasue noone was using it?
