Server Going Down

Okay is it just me with this frustration or do I share it with others. As of late I have noticed this to be more common. I will be going about my mission having fun and boom. Game locks up for no reason. So I exit report window and log back in. This is my first frustration that I know we are all struggling with.

Although, the one that just makes me want to scream is when game locks up and freezes my computer. I reboot, start game, log back in…and notice server is down. My computer freezes because they rebooted with NO WARNING!!

So yeah it’s nice for like the first 15 minutes because the server really fast with no one on it; however, I don’t understand why they like to reboot the server without having an Admin warning everyone??!! Sometimes for scheduled maintenance reboots they tell everyone.

Sometimes they don’t. I really wish they could start warning us every time and not just when they decide to.

Thanks
Mike

Re: Server Going Down

Happened to me today (first time).

I'm sure they have guidelines in place (just in case folks were in the middle of a fight when it happens).

Re: Server Going Down

I have had the server crash on me like that maybe once or twice since launch, but not recently. May be the times I am on or maybe its more of a problem wkth Guardian than with other servers. Dunno. I can imagine it would be REAL frusterating though for sure.

Re: Server Going Down

Something you may want to check into is this: Have you upgraded to Service Pack 2 with Windows XP? If so, your problem may be there, especially with some of the video cards that have not gotten driver upgrades to handle some of the changes with the new service pack. Check your security settings with SP2, and think about turning off the XP Firewall, as it may be causing some of the problem.

Just some stuff I have seen about XP SP2 from other games. hope it helps.

Re: Server Going Down

Gaurdian has done it twice and it has nothing to do with windows XP on that one...thats individual crashes.

Re: Server Going Down

Are you talking about "lost conection with map server"? I have only had the game for a couple of weeks now I have had that happen to me twice already. The first time I got completely booted off and the other it rightened itself after a couple of min and I continued playing.

Re: Server Going Down

Mapserver connections are one of those annoying problems with online games. Things you might want to check at home would be: 1) depending on your internet connection check you line connection to the computer or modem. I have heard of people saying that even slightly loose cord can cause this to happen. 2) Sometimes skips in the modem (either phone line or broadband) can cause mapserver. I have been online before when my cable company runs the "warnings/public service notices" and my connection lapse for a second and I get booted. Happens every night at 12:30 or so. Never fails. Sometime the servers are just overloaded and suffer these issues. If it gets to be a repetitive problem and you cant figure a way to fix it I would suggest going to the CoH main forums to the Technical section in the forums.

Generally everyone expierences issues with mapservers in some way. Hope this helps out for now and that these issues stop soon for you.
