Dasha's guide to grouping

Hey all,

I know there are hundreds of these strewn about but you havnt heard my story yet....

to be honest there is only one thing you need to have a succesful group and that is communication. This guide is not gonna tell you what classes or what moves to use this is the ground work.

After your group is formed figure out who is the puller, map writer, killer, monk protector. note anyone can fill any of these roles even the monk them selves can be there own protector just depends on there play style..

Puller is the leader everyone follows only one puller. The map writer is someone who knows the map. The map writer is the only one to draw on the compase period only one map writer.. The killer is someone who can kill 1 mob very fast there usually will be more than one killer.. The monk protector will assist the killer but when mobs attack the monk they will kill what is attacking the monk usually only one and the rest are killer's..

ok now that you got that figured out make sure everyone understands it and head out to go hunting..

Traveling:
The puller follows the directions from the map writer. While traveling everyone keeps the puller outside of there agro bubble (the tranparent circle around yourself see the compase) and follows.. This is the most important part..

Fighting:
The map writer will select which mobs to fight by clicking on there red dots.. The puller will then go initiate the fight with the mobs.. Now everyone else is keeping the puller out of there agro bubble right - good.. Everyone will then wait a couple seconds to let the puller get some agro then charge in to help there comrade..

This is were the fun begins..

The puller will try to keep as many of the mobs attention as they can. - hitting a mob a couple times then switching to another and keep a rotation of a few mobs remember your not here to kill your here to keep as many of the mobs on you..

The killer will burn down the healers. - then move to mobs that are not attacking the puller..

The monk protector will have to remain sharp and be able to help the monk at any time.. If the monk has nothing smashing its face in you assist the killer..

The monk stayes at max heal range sorry monks no auto attack from you and try to always keep the mobs out of your agro bubble. Heal and back away.. Your survival = group survival..

By using this strategy the monk will have a limited number of people getting smacked in the face and will have energy when it is needed..

well that is my wee group strategy let me know what you think.

and yes I suck at spelling and grammer many appologies..

/bow

Re: Dasha's guide to grouping

Sounds like a good plan -- I wish that *any* of my groups could be this organized. Maybe its just bad luck, but anytime I group with random people, everybody seems to go their own way and have their own ideas about everything. Once or twice when I asked about who wanted to pull, I got no answer. :\

Not a bad strategy when you have a group of people. I tend to have henchmen in the group a lot of the time, which makes it pretty much impossible to follow something so structured.

Re: Dasha's guide to grouping

its not that bad to control your henchmen.. We run with 3 henchmen healer, mage, and Thom... If they run up just back way up until they start to follow you then as there coming to you is when you start your fight.. usually they will not turn and fight unless you start your attack or they make it to your position..

just one thing I picked up when we had two grps of baddies in close proximity...

the only bad thing about my strategy is I have found only 1 person in GW that can follow my directions hehe

You should submit this as a guide. I'll clean up any spelling/grammar errors you might have, so don't worry about that. User sumbissions is what makes GameAmp go 'round. :)

It depends on your party structure. I'm a mesmer primary and the only person I really play with is a monk. We can control the henchmen for the most part, but sometimes they insist on attacking to the death even when we run away (or perhaps they all decide that defending my corpse is a good plan?). Since both my friend and I are support classes, we've had to adopt a different party organization. I guess the best description for what we do would be "guerilla warfare" -- kill the stragglers and heal up before picking off the monsters slowly.

Re: Dasha's guide to grouping

Nice guide. However the point about different professions needing different strategies is true too. Support characters deal with things differently than Damage Dealers. No 2 groups will have the same composition of professions. (OR player skill but thats a separate discussion) One of my guild's most effective pullers is a ranger that runs forward and uses his longbow then runs back. The tanks try to get in the way while I (Elementalist) and the others make life difficult for the monsters.

It works for us. PUGs on the other hand won't have that level of cooperation or knowledge of what the other players are doing. The worst thing is setting higher expectations on what is possible than the PUG can deliver.

Re: Dasha's guide to grouping

lol I should make a sidenote in all my guides they are writing with Henchies in mind 8P.....

oh and a little trick I picked up this weekend. If you have at least 2 live people in a henchie group. and you want to pull a group of casters/rangers (mobs that will attack you before you pull them back and your henchies will just charge even though you havnt attacked yet).. ok have one person stand a ways back and before you charge in to pull have your friend start retreating the henchies will follow him and you can safely pull the mobs to you so you can position them were you need to.. Id say this works 80%-90% of the time..
