Sorry to be posting this, i know it's been talked about excessively on just about every BF2 forum there is, but i can't for the life of me find a solution to the problem.
I downloaded the demo yesterday, did the video and audio settings to my liking, everything fine, tried to do the controls but had a few problems, couldn't assign certain keys. I use the arrows instead of wsad, forward and backward, left and right to strafe, ctrl to crouch, shift to jump, kp_1 to prone, kp_0 to reload etc. etc. I didn't set any aircraft or helicopter controls, because i said i wasn't going to use them until i buy a joystick.
Eventually i got my controls to a decent setup which i could use, but then a friend told me how i could fly with the keyboard and mouse, using left and right mouse buttons to accelerate and decelerate, up and down on the arrows to climb/descend, left and right to roll left and right, delete to switch weapons, right ctrl to fire, right shift to alt fire, and mouse axis left and right to move the plane right and left without rolling, and up and down mouse axis to move up and down as a secondary to the arrow keys.
I went into control options, and reset all the controls to default, deciding i needed everything exactly how i liked it and what was easier for me, and not what the demo dictates i can and cant use, this is where it got ridiculous. i deleted all of the keys in every field, land controls, aircraft etc. and when i started to set my keys, i was getting "duplicate key found in common controls" when everything had been deleted from common controls, and now i cant even play the game because i cant set my controls.
I tried setting my mouse axis for the aircraft, but it said "duplicate key found in air controls" when i had deleted everything from air controls. I went into controls.con file and deleted all mouse axis entries, but it still said the same thing...how can i fix it?

I have the exact same problem. The problem occurs both in the demo and the retail version. Trying to modify the mouse axis controls results in the "duplicate key found" error. It looks like a serious bug that nobody in dice has found
