Geforce 4 Problem

My name is Phil and this is my first post on this forum

I currently have a GeForce 440 MX which will not work with BF2. It goes into a blank screen for 3 seconds before returning to my desktop.

I have already read the previous topic about fixing the problem however it is for GeForce TI not MX.

If you have a way that can fix the problem, your help would be greatly appreciated. If not could you reccommend a new video card?

Thankyou in advance

Re: Geforce 4 Problem

Well i read in a forum somewhere someone had the same video card as you and the same problem, and everyone told him it was because the card was too outdated and crap...

I have a radeon x800pro and am able to run everything on highest settings without any problems even though i only have a p4 2.4 and a gig of not really high speed ram just medium quality...but i know not everyone can afford that card (i couldn't even afford it, had to take out a loan to get one) so i think the the last card before the x800 made by radeon might be good...

Re: Geforce 4 Problem

I've given up on the GeForce 4 Card and am buying a Geforce FX6600 with 256mb.

That will run BF2 wont it?

Re: Geforce 4 Problem

i think my gforce card is considered crap, so will 512 MB be able to run the game smoothly, with an upgraded video card?

Re: Geforce 4 Problem

The problem with Geforce 4, isn't exactly that it is old and crappy.
The problem is that Geforce 4 only supports "Pixel Shader 1.3" (that is Graphic Card technology).
Battlefield requieres "Pixel Shader 1.4", so the problem is that the game was developed to run only with the newest graphic cards, even thoug a geforce 4 would have been sufficient to run the game.
Games like Doom 3, is programmed to several versions of Pixel Shader, thereby making i look great on all graphic cards. On a Geforce 6 PS1.4 would be used, and on Geforce 4 PS1.3 would be used.

Re: Geforce 4 Problem

i had a geforce 4 ti4200 128mb, and i had to upgrade to play the game. you need the FX series or higher for BF2. i have a 6600GT now, works fine, cant turn settings on high tho this game is really taxing.
i would recomend 1Gb of ram, 512 is the minimum needed and wont load or play as well. but 512 will still work :)
