My Favorite Class

I have 8 Blasters spread out over a handful of servers that I enjoy playing. I'm much more fond of the Electricity/Fire Primary Blasters then the others however each do have their positive aspects.

Tried to get into the other classes but the only class I've enjoyed playing outside of my hard-hitting Blaster would be a Tanker.

Re: My Favorite Class

I'm the same way, I love my blaster...and yes, I admit, when I created her, she was kind of a Storm clone, but, thanks to the new taylor shops she looks a lot different now.

I think the reason I like the blaster is because the majority of heroes I grew up to admire in the comics were all blasters. I think they are just the coolest fighters, although not the strongest. And they really can just come out of nowhere and save the day when needed.

The only character I have that comes close a close 2nd to my blaster is my defender. Back in the old days before I knew what I wanted out of life, I worked in a hospital and I created my defender to do what I couldn't...heal those who needed it most, when they needed it most. I really get a kick out of doing drive-by healings on you guys in battle getting in a little over your heads.

Re: My Favorite Class

I've done a healer char in all the previous mmorpg's I"ve played... I'm tired of picking up the pieces, or getting yelled at for not healing the idiot in the group (and yes, sometimes on purpose *hehe*) I do that in RL, and get stressed out about it... don't want to do it when I'm supposedly having fun...

That said, I love my Tanks, Blasters, and Scrappers. I do have a dark/dark defender that I'm a little fond of, but that build gets verbally beaten up by other people. So, *shrugs* that's just me... look for GrrrlX or Grrrl X on every single server!! Woot!

Not my favorite, but I still like it

I have two Blasters, one (Dark Kakarot) is a clone of my friend's Dark Vegeta being an Energy/Energy Blaster. The other Blaster (The Italian Avenger) is a Rifle/Devices Blaster. I enjoy Avenger because it's kinda nice to bust out a Taser and a tommy gun occasionally. I also notice the vast difference between him and Kakarot, seeing as Kakarot depends on knockback and Avenger relies on the diversity given by the Devices he has available. (web, taser). I enjoy them both but am able to see the subtle differences in play. Is this the same for all Blasters?

Re: My Favorite Class

I have a lv36 Fire/Fire Blaster that I enjoyed playing. I actually don't play this character very much anymore but I still enjoy playing on this character.

The only thing that I don't like is I can't kill one mob, as fast as, some other charactesr can. So it's very hard to lv once you get into your 30's.

Inferno is my favorite power I love walking into a group of 15 plus men and killing them all in 1 blow.

All the best,
Mike

Re: My Favorite Class

I love being in the middle of the action, and that's why I love my Katana/Dark Armor scrapper. I wade into a mob with Dark Embrace and Death Shroud, then I Hack and Slash the nearest peon until a couple of his buddies gather around him, then I unleash a Whirling Sword and Slice attacks, catching them all. If I run low on health, I click Dark Regen and suddenly I'm healed, and ready for the next mob.

Re: My Favorite Class

GrrlX said exactly why I play a blaster instead of a defender, which I probably could do rather well. I have enough other stresses in my life. I do not need to be worried about the lives of my friends' super heroes.

After a long day of my employees calling in sick to work because they have a flat tire for the 3rd time this month and the network being down for an hour and my boss asking me to have a report to her before she leaves for the day (3 hours before the end of my day), I want to come home and beat up the bad guys...and do lots of damage doing so.

This is why I play a blaster :)

They just don't make tires like they used to do they! lol

I agree with your points. I became a blaster for the same reason. I tried some healer because it is kind of in my nature, but after having enough bad experiences with Scrappers jumping into piles of 20 Mobs that they couldn't normally take 3 of and blasters thinking they are tanks and all whinning when they die because you didn't do your job and save them, I gave up on the idea and went to blaster lol.

Re: My Favorite Class

I've got a healer, even got her up to lvl 16... but after playing her for any lenght of time, i had to log on w/ my blaster after, b/c i needed to shoot something... kinda felt left out of the real action.... i was told i was a very good healer, and i don't take any of that bull about it being my fault someone died, b/c they always have those inspirations they could pop, and if i don't have end or what not... well my healer has been on the back burner for a while espically now that Liz is lvl 26, i just can't bring myself to not be the one pulling the trigger... some day i will bring my healer back, but right now Liz is way to much fun.

I find the blaster to be more fun to play than other characters. I also have a couple of tankers that I like to play. I have tried scrappers and without the range, I have problems keeping them alive. The major "problem" I have with my tanker is that she doesn't do enough damage. I get bored playing her after an hour or so. Realistically, she is probably balanced and I need to find a blaster to group with, but you know what I mean.

Re: My Favorite Class

I know .. it's a Blaster Forum. And no, I am not going to say Blasters suck; personally, I like having you guys around. But for me, my favorite class to play is a Controller. No, they don't take things down fast, but when things get hairy, a Controller can be a great friend to have in your group.

My character is an Ice/Storm Controller, which I have found is a GREAT combo. Controllers are good at stopping things, and with Ice Controller powers, you really get them to freeze in their tracks. With the immobilize powers that do damage, and the hold powers that keep things from running, a Controller is invaluable to have in many situations. They help the group focus on killing a couple of thugs at a time, help keep thugs at bay, and are also pretty good at helping reduce the endurance drain across the entire team. The Storm powers are also quite useful, and I even have a heal power I can use which has saved lives on occasion.

Although I can solo with little risk of ever dying, it is slower than in a group. And having a Blaster or two (...or three) along with a Scrapper, Tanker, and Defender is always a good thing. As long as each understands the role of the other, the experience rolls in faster and people rarely if ever die, even when it gets hairy.

So, I like playing a Controller best, but I like having ALL classes in my group because it makes it more fun!

Madam Freeze

Re: My Favorite Class

From My character list it's obvious that I like the Blaster Arch. I do keep a little diversity in the characters so I can change it up from time to time, but dishing out the damage, and all of the fireworks that go off with a blaster really appeal to me.

I also think this is an easy type to start with. They can't hurt you if they are face down in the mud! I know a lot of people start with scrappers because they are a little easier to solo too. I just couldn't get into it. Don't get me wrong, my all time favorite comic hero is Wolverine ™. (I know we're all a little upset with Marvel right now, but I still love Logan's attitude!) I tried a claws scrapper with regen. Made him look like a really big robot with a crippled kid inside that idolized his comic hero. I just found him sitting all of the time while I blasted with my fav's. Sometimes it's hard to create a character based on one of your old time fav's without just being a copycat. Don't get me started on all of the X-men clones out there. C'mon guys, we have millions of name and chracter designs. Have a little originallity(sorry, pet peeve). On the flip side, most of the powers in the game were created based on comics we all know and love. Don't be Wolverine....... Be one of his illigitamate children. You know how he gets around! :)

But back to Blasters. I like to help my controller, and Defender buddies by helping with the damage dealing. I can solo, but it get's lonely, and in combo with a good Defender or Controller, you can accelerate the exp gathering when street hunting, and running missions. I've currently been running with a friend of mine that has a Dark Melee/Regen scrapper. We mow through the mobs pretty efficiently as a pair. My holds and stuns aren't as good as a Controller or Defender, but I can use Tesla Cage to keep a red leut out of the fight, and some bosses too. I've been working on Thundarpants from the beginning. He's gotten shelved a couple of times while I try other things out, but he's always been what I like to play. I had a little trouble in the teens with solo'ing, but after you start getting in the mid to high 20's, you really start to ramp up nicely.

I saw thejeni's comments about her AR/Elect blaster. I can see some diffuculties trying to get your game plan together with that combo. I guess the best advice that I can offer is to work more on the primaries and the pools. There are a couple of good things in the secondary. If you are a fan of knockback as a defensive measure, the AR has good knockback, and combined with Thunder Clap, and Thunder Strike(caution this is cool, but has a long animation), you could keep them down and not attacking. Just be consious of the other's in your team. We play hell with our Scrapper and Tanker buddies sometimes. With a lot of knockback, running with other Blasters, Defenders, or Controllers is probably little more efficient. With a good controller, your stuns and drains won't scatter the mob, but still be effective.

On the auto fire on Blasters: I thought I would never find a use for this, but actually found that I can use this alot. I never put it on one of my ranged attacks. I tested this out early on, and got into trouble when I had forgot to turn it off, and looked at a purple baddie. Until you get a feel for your abilities, and learn your NOT A TANKER OR SCRAPPER, you'll live through a little debt. I know I did. If they didn't want me to do a little scrapping, why give me that Charged Brawl? Ah, here's a good use for your Auto Attack. I set Charged Brawl or Power Push, or etc.... on Auto. There's always some jerk from the mob that wants to get up close and personal. I just keep hitting attack after attack. When the last guy I'm taking down drops, and I just hit another attack, it will automatically change to the closest enemy, and then WHAM! Most of those attacks are pretty good damage, so one of your ranged attacks is usually ready to go, and you can finish him off.

A couple things to note on the use of this:
1) If you are working with one of the Kinetics or Dark healers, they need a "victim" for their heal. You may want to turn this off for that. If the mob is big, they'll send another melee guy, just be aware of what your team mates need to do to assist you. You can always use your holds and stuns to help those players keep a healing or buff generator in the group, and keep them from dishing out any damage while they are being "used". :)

2) If you need to run from a fight, and this is in use, you can turn around in mid flight if the power comes back up. I've had a couple of panic moments trying to get out of a fight, and I turn back around when charge brawl comes back up if I'm still close enough, or running by the last target.

Once you start getting a lot of the ranged attacks in your queue, you'l find it hard to get to those melee powers in battle, and the Auto Attack works for me.

Re: My Favorite Class

actually after reading my post from b/f i have to say i change my mind about ele as a secondary.... don't get me wrong i only have a couple of things from it, but those few have made Liz a total bad ass.... for example build up: w/ it i can take down every min w/i range w/ one shot from my full auto (i would only be able to get them all most of the way down on health w/o buildup)... i can also 2 shot lieu w/ buildup sniper and slug (of my lvl and one higher)... i also LOVE lighting clap... w/ all the aoe's i have i tend to get a lot of agro, and it is the best way of getting them all away from me...

as for working w/ bait, er i mean tanks or scrappers, i don't use 2 of my attacks when i am w/ them (buckshot and mp30) b/c i know those will almost always have knockback... but if the bait is good enough at their job, we only have to worry about lieu and bosses after i fire my alpha strike... i've also discovered a great trick w/ ele fence and beanbag... it works like an imobolization if i hit w/ both of them.... right now i also have power sink but when we get the holiday respec i'm thinking i will be getting rid of it (it is nice but i try to stay as far out of melee range as i can and you have to be VERY close to use it)...

but after getting Liz up to lvl 39 i wouldn't change my secondary for anything

Re: My Favorite Class

Just spewing my 2 cents to this topic since it has re-surfaced. I have one of each type. I like them all, but, the hardest one for me to play is the Tanker. I'm so used to hanging back with the others...blasters, defenders, controllers.

I love playing blasters, because, my blasters are built to have hover and fly...this way they keep me away from those bastards that puch!

Defenders (emp/rad) are my second fav...I guess this is what someone was refering to as a "Blaster Lite"...and, yes, I tend to play Healing Hands as a blaster, only because the rad powers really pack a punch when you have them slotted for damage dealing. I do, however, know when to play the healer and not the blaster when I team up with people.

Controllers are a new animal to me and thanks to recent teaming with a very patient team mate, I have learned that they may be slow in climbing the level ladder, but, they have the potential to be a very powerful member of a team and I can't wait to get her higher and open up some new powers for her to use.

Scrappers are fun just because they can kick butay and take some serious damage at the same time, but, my combat tatic I do with scrappers is hit and run and come back and hit again.

Which brings me to my slight problem playing tankers...I tend to hit and run, and I don't need to...I can get hit by 3 bad guys and it hardly move the health meter, but, being used to the egg fragile blasters where one hit can drain half the life force, other then that mind block, I really like just running up and punching the doodoo out of a bad boy.

Ok, I've blah blahed enough...off to Paragon City. Laters

Re: My Favorite Class

I'm glad you found your niche with the Electric secondary jeni, and thanx for the heads up on Power Sink. I'm still debating the need to respect to fit it in, but I am trying to get Stamina 6 slotted, and skip it. I can't imagine giving up any of the cool powers I have now. I'm 2 bubs away from Thunderous Blast, so maybe later on PowSink. I find myself in the thick of things sometimes, but mostly I hang back and hover. I can't wait for Full Auto on Buckshot, but most of my alts are getting shelved for a while. I'm working hard on Thundar, and Asphalt right now. Thundar has to get to level 50 so I can try out the new Arch. That's going to take some hard work. "Bait" lol, now that's funny! I play with a couple of scrappers in duo fighting, and they are some pretty mean bait. Poor fish! Getting there butt's kicked like that! :)

Re: My Favorite Class

if you get stam 6 slotted, you will rarely need something that gives you stamina... don't get me wrong there have been a few times in which i have used it, but mostly for getting rid of the bad guys stam not b/c i needed it... as for calling them bait, that is exactly what they are.... their job (in my opinion) is to gather up everyone into a nice neat little group all together so when i hit my full auto most of them will fall down and we can clean up the mess after.. but they have to be stout enough (and good enough at getting everyone's attention) to handle it.... of course if they cannot do this they have to at least have enough since to not get them scattered away b/f my full auto can go off (so frustrating when it only hits one or two people).... but i think of dangling them in the water a bit w/ sending them in 1st and standing really far away and shooting (i have range on all my attacks except sniper)

Welcome JBrad! I agree, I have a couple defenders, a tank, and blasters. Out of all classes, I have the most fun with the blasters. I am slowly liking my new defender, and my tank I play when I am in the mood to act like a borg. (that is what my tank is, a borg drone)

Re: My Favorite Class

My NEW favorite class is the Kheledian class. I started my Peacebringer last night and I have to say I LOVE this AT. The ONLY problem is wondering which power pools I should choose from since you start out with Fly at level 1 (or Teleport for Warshades). I guess that is what RESPEC is for right? Anyway, I made levels 1-8 in just over 2 hours thanks to the council vs 5th column in sw atlas. I had a good team and we just killed anything in sight, and since the baddies spawn back so quick and in mobs, we were wiping out some baddies in mass amounts :P. Anyway...less chat MORE splat!

Re: My Favorite Class

I never had a character that could open up the Kheldians on the test server. What are your first few attacks looking like? ranged or melee? Also, alfo3000, I noticed your SG name, Austin Metro Avengers. Don't tell me you actually live in Austin TX do you! That would be too "small world". With this new game, I've gamed with more people around the world and the states then I've probably actualy known in my lifetime previously. For someone else to be playing from Austin is no great stretch, this is a computer geeks paradise, it's just strange to actually run into someone local.

I know that there are other Austins, and just because you are in the SG doesn't mean you live here. It just caught my eye.

I'm working hard on Thundarpants to get to level 50. I really like trying out new characters, but I know my style. I'll be looking at ranged attacks if they have them first. Luckily it will take me some time to get there, so I should be able to scan some feedback on the powers they have before my run.

I see that you created your new character on Liberty. I hope I get a chance to run into you there. I just joined a new SG, so I'm sort of the doormat there too. But, I do get tired of the same ole blasting now and then, and run one of my other blasters.......lol. Sometimes I like watching other players with their creations to see if I like the effects, and powers.

And... Welcome to Liberty as well. I have test characters on the Protector server, and had some serious problems with rude behavior while I was running some of them. I don't go there often now, as I have 7 slots set in stone, and one open for the Kheldian when I can get it. (Sorry Plasmantis, you gotta go into your cocoon, and emerge as "something else"). But, I've noticed a lot of random acts of kindness, and drive by healings. It seems to be a good server to run on.

Also, alfo3000, I noticed your SG name, Austin Metro Avengers. Don't tell me you actually live in Austin TX do you! That would be too \"small world\". With this new game, I know that there are other Austins, and just because you are in the SG doesn't mean you live here. It just caught my eye.

Yes indeed i am in Austin, TX. Great to meet another Austin Weirdo (you know what I mean). I have recently moved to Liberty server because of all the people in Austin that play on that server. Look out for the SG "The Canteen Warriors" I think that is their name. I will def add your alts to my friends list!

See ya around!

Re: My Favorite Class

As a blaster I would have to say that's what I like in a hero...

Ok. as a player, I like my blasters. Twilight Witch is my main (on Freedom), and when I created her, I tried to stick with the basics. energy/energy... I stacked her powers to make her as much of a damage dealer as possible... at lvl 39, I have no problems hitting a lvl 41, 42, or 43. Yes i have aim, build up and conserve power... but I also have some powers to make those bad guys stay away. (IE power push, knock back, etc... you know what I mean). and I find that stealth, speed, and fly are good ways to remove yourself from the sights of most baddies.

I also have an alt, SuperZap... she's elec/elec. I like the electric fence and field, adds some aoe to the blaster, and again helps keep some bad guys off my back. So I guess I'm a purist when it comes to powersets. I like them to compliment each other.

but as a blaster the best thing I like is my Nova. I like to team up with a meat-shield... er I mean Tanker, and have them herd a zone... get lots and lots of freaks ready for a beating... have that mighty meat-tank take on all that agro, turn on your stealth, zip in the middle, and "Big Bada Boom"!!! (the wolf world zone is great for this, there's a spot in the forrest with a tree, jump in that tree, let your meaty protector run around the forest rounding up strays, and hit them hard with a nova... it's quite enjoyable).

take a few endurance insp, fly out of range and let the tank clean up a few remaining thugs.

I love my alts... and have a few on all the servers, but my blaster is by far my favorite... I'm just glad that I'll get a chance to look into the new Power sets that are coming up in lvl 41...

Re: My Favorite Class

i love my blaster (fire/dev), but i am also finding myself playing my grav/kin i just started. i like my emp defender, but i just get too much stress playing him. my dark dark is a controller in eveything but name. my range mentality has kept me away from tanks and scrappers, but i am trying a dark/dark scrapper and loving him.

PS dark miasma has the best revive IMHO
