Multiple Slots on Taunt 

Ok, my tank is lvl 30, with only the default slot on taunt. I have perma-hasten, and I auto set taunt. A lot of squishies died under my watch last night in an invincible set mission. So, to play at invincible, should I have more slots on taunt?

Well...I'm not a very experienced Tanker player, so I hope others will add more seasoned logic, but I would definitely recommend grabbing some slots. If the baddies were getting away from you, it's probably because your Taunt ended, and you were no longer aggroing. I'm sure if you plug in some SO Taunt Duration enhancements, the problem will disappear. Good luck.

Yes rmember that compared to you, all other players are squishies. The only archetype that can come close is Kheldian and that's only in Dwarf form. I would highly suggest slotting taunt epsecially if you have a blaster making a lot of agro for himself. A blaster will probably still take some baddies off you even with 6 slots with all their AoEs and such. I hope this can help stop more squishy death.

I would have a minimum of 2 taunt enhancements, and depending on how fast hasten brings it up for you, a recharge. If it's coming up fast enough, more taunts is always a good choice. Remember that your job is primarily to hold aggro, so you are never wasting slots when you are using them for that.

Couple of taunt is a good idea, but there are always runners. And depending on the type of villians you fight, they might not come to you at all. Especially Nemisis are very taunt resistant. I usually keep my eyes open and a taunt ready, in stead of auto-taunt. If I see some run away, jump to the rescue and taunt from there. Also depending on your build, you can throw in a few taunt enhancements in your defence powers (eg. in invincibility for invunerable tankers).

I agree with Phedre,

I don't like auto taunt, because when someone gets past you you want to be able to taunt them directly and immediately. With frankie I have 2 AOE's that I use a lot. Since my attacks have taunt in them the AOEs do a good job of holding aggro right around me, and then I can targeted taunt as needed. I dont have any extra taunt slots.

If the blaster hits before you go in then you are fighting to get the aggro back. Try to set up a signal. When possible I have invicible on (which includes a taunt), jump in the middle, taunt, do 1 AOE then hit the "READY" button. When I am able to do this and continue AOE and taunts It is nearly impossible to get away from me. If someone hits first especially AOE its a fight to gain aggro.

Cool, thanks for the advise, when I hit 31 I'll put 2 more slots on taunt and SO them (that will make 3 total).

My guy is Brimstone Titan, on the Liberty server, look me up sometime, I play with my wife "Fire Crusader".

I was torn between putting the slots on weave or combat jumping, because they only have the default ones. You can see my other topic called something like "Slotting Tough and other defenses for a Fire Tank" for more info. So anyways, I think I'll put the third one (you do get 3 slots at lvl 31, right?) on weave and the other two on taunt.

I feel bad when squishies die. :-)

Yeah, you are right. Runners was a bad choice of words. I did't mean to go after the chickens that run off. I meant the villians that decide to turn around on me and start attacking other team members. For them I keep my taunt and grath ready.

i just rerolled on a new server but my old Tanker had a few slots on Taunt and it proved very helpful in missions or anything else.

I use "Taunt" quite often, usually to break up large groups into smaller groups when soloing and protect team when not.

The new "Gauntlet" Power helps but I still use my "Taunt" frequently, I would love it if the Taunt was the toon flipping the bird at the enemy, or is that just me...?

Anyhow...

I have it 4 Slotted and I find this gives it power, and makes it always work well...

Now that i'm level 40...

Defeault Slot 1 [Enhance Taunt Effectiveness] SO's 40++
Slot 2 [Enhance Accuracy] SO's 40++
Slot 3 [Enhance Distance] SO's 40++
Slot 4 [Enhance Recharge Speed] SO's 40++

You don't need any [Reduce Endurance Cost] enhancements for it uses so little Endurance to begin with.

I always max out my Enhancements when I can.

I've slotted taunt for range and duration because sometimes players dont understand that I have to have the aggro, before they can attack. So if you find your teammates dying more often then I would add 2 or 3 slots to it. You dont need to over do it.

Hiya guys..

Now I'm pretty new to tanking

Got myself a wee Inv/SS tank at lvl 25 but I thought about trying something a bit odd.

Now my taunt has 2 Taunt Enh's in it but still I find the max cap of 5 taunted makes it hard to keep the mobs stuck on you when in bigger teams. Even my AoE with taunt and taunt in armour so I went for the prescence power pool and went for the taunt power there. I intend to pick up confront as well and then prob invoke panic (to keep mobs held)

So far I have foudn two taunts very useful and it allows me to hold the mobs alot better to catch those that slip the net.

I understand the prescence pool tautn isn't as effective as the tanks taunts but slotted with Acc & taunt it seems to be doing a good job.

It was a wee thoguht on how to get round the cap of 5 max taunt.

What you guys think?

any thoughts on this please fire away as i'm just a walking shield atm ;)
