To take screenshots in-game, just hit the print screen button on your keyboard(its next to scroll lock and the f12 key) the screenshots are saved in(Usually)
C:\program files\Guild Wars\Screens\
To put the picture in your avatar you will first have to either resize it or crop it to the size permitted(I think 100*100) Then go to manage portraits, from there you should be able to figure things out. supported file types are gif, jpg and png.

You'll have to convert the screenshot to a jpeg or a gif. Guildwars saves it as a bmp which won't upload. (either its too big or an unsupported image format, i forget) You can do this with photoshop if you have it, or Irfan View, which I think is a free download. Gimp will definately do it, and thats also a free download.
To add a screenshot to this site, go to the screenshot section and click 'add image' in the bar at the top (above the ad). Fill out the information, click add file, and navigate to where you saved the screenshot.

Open it up in a text editor, MS paint, photoshop..etc, and click file\Save as and save it as whatever file format you need it to be.
