Using Dial up

I only have access to dial up at the moment...
its going to be a few months untill I can get back to uni and use the broadband...

but first I have to buy the game (which I am going to do) but what is the connection on dial up like? If anyone has it on dial up...

If its really bad, I will be stealing my friends broadband, and taking my portable hard drive over... :P

Re: Using Dial up

Dial up is fine (im on it now :( ) the only differences is area's take fractionally longer to load than broadband, espeacially if its your first time in that area, sometimes you get lagged up in towns but i always come out of it in like 10 seconds.

Even the updates dont take long to download 5-10 minutes depending on how big the update is.

It may varie for you but its fine by me

Re: Using Dial up

Dial up plays great for me. It is like playing on broadband with three cons:

- Disconnections during missions (depends on reliability of your ISP).
- If your computer is also slow (cannot test if it also applies to a faster computer), I will be moving and as my computer draws in the new characters (such as PVP), I will skip around to the left and right a little bit after I stop or use a skill. This can be detrimental as it interrupts my cast and still uses the energy.
- Occassional announced/unannounced updates can make you suddenly enter the game late. This happened after the last update and I entered the game right as my last team member was being killed.

That said, the first two are really only of importance, the third isn't that frequent. If I'm intent on getting a mission done, I'll make sure to disconnect from my ISP and then reconnect at the start. Despite the above reasons, I am pleased with my $9.95/mo service.

Re: Using Dial up

Dial up works great with this game. You may at times experience small lag, usually in towns or cities. If it is too bad switch over to a different district (usually one with a higher number) that would present to you to have less people in it. As others mentioned you will have to wait a few seconds longer for downloads, naturally, but it is never over 15 seconds for me, even if I have never been to that area before.

Re: Using Dial up

I use dial-up and brodband on two different computers. I find that its not the internet you have but how good your computer is.

Re: Using Dial up

For me its internet. I use to have dial up (AOL) and we all know how AOL is. On Friday nights and Saturday everyoen uses it and its slow. But usally it'd work fine unless you wanted to use TS/Vent with it...then you create problems. With broadband its so smooth.
