Hey all,
I am thinking of combining these two interupters.. I have not really played a ranger or mesmer and I can stare all day long at the skills..
What are some of the more effective spells for a ranger or mesmer..
Im not looking to do a whole lot of damage with this toon I am going to attempt to learn the interuption part of the game.. lets hope I can cope 8P..... <--that's a good one isn't it....

Power Spike, Power Leak, leech signet and blackout are my favorite shutdown skills(mesmer) However They take tons of sp(Besides the leech signet) But they are your best bet as far as disruption/shutdown goes.(Mind Wrack works well after you've taken away all the sp from your opponent)
not sure about ranger skills though.
[EDIT]
I would think distraction shot, pin down(or anyting that cripples or maims will be just as important. Part of being able to shutdown a monk or an elementalist, its to make them focus on themselves and not the people they are supporting. The moment a monk has to fend for itself, thats when you got them on the ropes.

I play a 19 R/E, and the first thing you should remember is that you just don't have a lot of energy. You only get 3 bars of energy regen. I have druid's armor, which helps, and I'm sure there are other things out there to boost energy too, but you should be aware of this and look at the costs of skills too.
That said, I haven't had a chance to use Choking Gas yet, but it looks really cool. Savage Shot would probably also work well. Also check out Distracting Shot. There are a couple others, but this should put you on the right track.
I haven't really messed around with interrupting too much because it's kinda hard for me to tell if someone has been interrupted. Is there something specific to look for, or do you just have to watch to see if whatever they were casting went off?

When determining wether or not your able to interupt somone depends on the little icon that you see under their name as they are casting the spell. The icon first appears opaque/clear.It becomes more solid as the spell is almost charged, or ready to be released. Its withing that time frame that you have to use your interupting skills/spells(you'll know when the skill is interupted because the person seems knocked back some, and the icon disappears pre-maturely). Some things can't be interupted like Signets and Glyphs. or adrenline base skills(Unless a Ranger is knocked down, their skills can't be interupted as well)

Well, I would like to offer this advice to you. With a Ranger/Mesmer combination the animal is not as important. Use your attribute points by focusing on Marksmanship and Expertise. For your secondary profession you can focus on either domination or inspiration. Use domination if you want to be a seriously anti-caster or inspiration if you want to focus on draining energy (Drain Enchantment, Energy tap, etc.) from your opponent making it easier to use other skills, especially the Mesmer ones. Not to say you should not apply points to the others, but I would focus on those mainly. Make sure you keep Troll Urgent and I would say only keep the skills that heal your pet, not charm another animal. Use those slots for Mesmer skills and/or Ranger skills. I hope I provided you with some type of insight and help.
~Princess
P.S. The best part about a ranger/mesmer is your ability to disable an enemy before he does much or even any damage then move in for the kill. :)

Well, you seem to be doing well nevertheless to have leveled your character up to 14 with no compliants and fairly quickly. Did you name your Wolf?
~Princess
P.S. Hehe, I'm an E/Mesmer. Your roommate is missing the nice energy storage. :P Hehe, jkjk, Mesmers are very powerful.

The best skill combination i use at the moment is
favorable winds + 6 damage to arrows
kindle arrows + 10 fire damage to arrows
power shot + 15 damage to arrows
dual shot - 25%damage but fires 2 arrows
and that equals a lot of damage on to 1 arrow and i am a level 11 Ranger!
