So what's next?

** Warning Long – Get a coffee and a biscuit this may take a while **

I’m an adult gamer and I come from ffxi, but I needed a break from it as the drama on the server was spinning out of control.

I had heard many positive comments about the community on GW so I packed my bags, installed and moved here.

I am happy with the general feel of the game and the attitude between people (when not in a party – see below). The PvE is nicely done although the missions are a little too easy and the pathing is sometimes annoying.

I completed the storyline on my first character in a couple of days mainly with henchmen, this was due to henchmen being easier to control than the 'noob' and 'I’m higher level' shouting players as well as the 'wont heal you' type of people I initially met when playing the game with my first character. (btw this was never directed at me but often at people in the same party) This type of behaviour shocked and saddened me from a game that had such a positive reputation.

I am not criticising all parties, as I did find some great parties that worked very well together. For example, Hell’s Precipice party was of exceptional note map marker, puller, monk protection, tank and killer all worked together perfectly without any hassle or fuss for a quick successful mission. In all honesty this type of party was the exception rather than the rule >.<.

I then tried my hand at PvP, which is supposedly the games strength. I have very limited experience at PvP so that aspect of the game strongly appealed to me due to the game being more about skills than hours at keyboard (unlike ffxi where I had spent over 200 gameplay hours getting to and participating in the end-game)

There's no way to hide it, I felt let down. You are randomly grouped with 4 other people that don’t speak to each other and then they randomly do what they want. I don’t like taking charge in such matters as I don’t want to do anything against the spirit of a game I know little about. I continued to participate in this for around 4-5 hours and then slinked back to PvE.

I had also received a few invitations to different guilds during PvE and PvP, but I found this strange as I hadn’t even spoken to any of these people, and due to the fact many of the people I had met (see above) I felt reluctant to join any guild without knowing anything about it or its members. For example in ffxi I joined a guild (linkshell) after a month of playing by which time I knew several of the guilds members then 9 months later after a test period I joined an end-game guild (ls).

So I am in limbo with the game at the moment. I am sure it has more to offer as I am still a new player, although I have lv 20 Wa/Mo (PvE completed) lv 20 Ele/Ne and 12 Me/R PvE characters.

As I am relatively new its obvious I might have missed something from the game. Shall I just randomly accept these anonymous invitations from random guilds and try to get some GvG action to develop my PvP skills rather than the semi-useless pick up PvP parties?

Any suggestions?

Re: So what's next?

first off, i have to agree with you on the fact that alot of people are ______ (put a negative comment that first goes to your mind there). i would suggest if you want to meet some nice , experianced players, look at the sig's here and send one of us a whisper

PvP, there is more then one arena. and they are not all the same. there is
Ascalon Arena- levels 0-10 randomly assinged groups
Yaks Bend- 0-15 randomly assinged
Lions Arch- 0-20 Randomly assinged
now here is where i compete very little so i may be wrong
droknars forge 0-20
Also there are special arena's like the
Team Arena- where you get to make a group and then compete
Tomb of Primeval Kings- make a grp of 8 and compete in Hall of Heros tow in a sigil
Guild Battle- compete in a 8member guild battle to move your guild higher in the guild ladder

on joining one of the guilds randomly...i would suggest not. i would suggest look at what guild your friends are in. then start to meet them and if you like the guild, join. its pretty hard to not get accepted if you are level 2 and experianced.
on the other hand if you are more one of those competitive players. see which team won the HoH and it will usually be a guild. like sissy boys, or idiots savants.
if you wanted to apply for one of the top guilds go to guildwars.com and check out the guild ladder and try to get to know people in it.

Re: So what's next?

I've had the same type of experience in the game. I'm still trying to meet others with the same playing style/integrity. It's pretty much luck of the draw unless you know them.
