if bf2 wasn't such a good game i would have given up by now.
i've been using a 9600xt 256mb with reduced settings. i then upgraded to x800 256mb & doubled the RAM to 2mb to improve the frame rate. having tried to play single & multiplayer, the game crashes to desktop after about 5mins worth of play. when it does play the frame rate ranges between 60 to 70.
i only realise now that the x800 is different spec. to x800PRO or XT, the latter two supported by bf2 manual.
does anyone out there run bf2 with x800? i've tried latest catylist drivers, cdrom drivers & omega drivers all to no avail.
before i flog it on ebay, can someone confirm i have bought the wrong card or is this something else?

I can almost guarantee you that you have not bought the wrong card.
When you said you upgraded the ram to 2mbs that was a typo. What did you mean to say?
I really believe I can help you. I have been doing alot of research and have had to surmount my own x800xl problems. In the end it wasn't the card at all. It was RAM. Not saying that is what it is with you. In fact your problem appears to be more than a capacity issue. My biggest problem was I didn't have enough RAM. But I had two other non capacity related RAM issues as you will read.
Do this for me. List all the exact specifications of your system. Be as detailed as you possibly can. I think we can solve your problem. I am almost certain it is not your card.
My first problem was I had two sticks not equal to each other in cas latency. I had one stick of 512gb of 3.0 cl and the and another 2.5. I ordered an exact model# of the 2.5 one to match them up and oh my god the improvement. Literally by 20 fps in any given scenario. I had always heard that having mismatched latencies would cause issues. Now I have experienced it.
Then after about a week of playing I discovered almost accidentally that my RAM was in the wrong config. for Dual channel. I was not running in dual channel like I thought I was. It is a new motherboard and the instructions were confusing. I got online and found some alternative instructions and found I was in wrong config for dual channel. That improved my fps a by a few.
I also failed to mention that on occasion I would have random reboots and crash to desktops. I am hoping that the above adjustments solved those problems. Instability issues and all, like what you are having.
But I was still not getting the performance my research told me I was supposed to from my x800xl. The specific problem was this. While my fps showed 50 to 70 with everything on high settings I was still getting lag. My fps was not reflecting my experience. So I cranked it down to mid to high graphics and was still getting some lag but it was very playable. Then I started reading in different places that more than 1gb of RAM would help but wasn't sure, because I was reading others saying "no no dont go buy more ram, 1 gb is enough." Well my other system happened to have two 256mb sticks in it of cas latency 2.5 (same brand corsair). I took them out and put them in the other two slots on my motherboard (MSI Neo4 platinum) for a total of 1.5gbs of RAM. I then turned the anti aliasing UP to 6x and put the refresh rate on 90, with resolution on 1280x1024. Every single setting was the highest it could go. Here was the moment of truth. I got on a 64 player map and VIOLA!, PROBLEM SOLVED! I was so happy. You know EA suggests that more than one gb of ram would be necessary for all high settings. I mean I had NO lag what soever. So just to further insure myself that it was the ram I took the 512mbs out and turned the graphics back down a little. Sure enough I was back to the old lag. Well, I alt+tab-ed to desktop and opened windows task manager and what do know, the game alone was using almost 900mb of RAM. Go to 'processes' then look under 'mem usage'. That is too much ram usage out of a total of 1 gig to run smooth. So I put the 512 back in and there was no lag at all. Been playing like this, with no lag at all, every thing on high for 2 days, on 64 player servers. I consider my problem solved. More than 1 gig of ram will likely solve many peoples problem out there.
