I spent weeks trying to install bf2, sometimes it would
work! sometimes would crash on install with random md5 errors on any cd, never the same thing twice. I changed drivers i removed some programs that i thought were
making trouble. NOTHING WORKED!
Then tonight 3 am i decide WINDOWS SERVICE PACK 2
has allways been a little flakey so i uninstall it
and BINGO the install of BF2 is flawless the gameplay
is great even awesome!!!!! Hmmmm did ea games actually
release a game that doesnt work with SP2? so i check
support pages and bingo again, they actually released
game they new didnt work with sp2!!!!!!!!!!! ASSHOLES
then i called friend from work, he could never get it to
work and he uninstall SP2 and his works fine??????
this is actually on support pages, and says they working on problem??????
WHY EVEN RELEASE GAME THAT DOESNT WORK WITH WINDOWS SP2
SORRY ABOUT THE HISSY FIT BUT IF YOU WANT ALL THE BUGS IN GAME GONE AND YOU HAVE SP2 I SWEAR IT WILL RUN PERFECT WHEN YOU UNINSTALL SP2!!
thanks rAtt_bAstArd

Ratt bastard you're a bull in a china cabinet. You're butting this and grunting that and you're not really saying anything contructive. Could you back up your sources WITH LINKS? Could you do something other than spam the damn wild claims you've been making. You are making blanket statements that for one thing are just wrong. It is simply not true that EA made a game that cannot be run on SP2. Did I not clearly state that within my immediate sphere of friends there are four computers that I know of personally that are running battlefield two fine with service pack two. Two of these computers belong to me.
You are starting to piss me off.
I have no problem with someone merely stating their own experience. I do that all the time in forums, and you know what, on many occasions I end up being flat out wrong. 'My experience' has often led me to think something that was not true. In fact, I think this is what your problem is right now.
ONWARD
For anyone concerned the following information is on how to best run BF2 with WinXP, service pack 2.
Let me say this up front, if you are using a pirated copy of XP, all bets are off. I have heard of many cases where people had troubles/issues with the combination of patching SP2 onto a pirated copy of XP. So my statements do not apply to that scenario. Use a legal copy of XP. (could it be that ratt bastard and his little mice minions are using a pirated winXP?)
It might help if I tell you what I am running. I personally bought an OEM copy of WinXp Home Edition on February 22-05 from www.newegg.com with service pack 2 already on it for 90.00$. But presumably most of you have a copy of winXP serv. pack 1. I just wanted to let people know that the winXP, with service pack 2 already on it that I bought this year is running BF2 brilliantly. If you are considering purchasing the same thing then you may not need to read the rest of my post. But for those who do not have that kind of copy, read on.
You do not need a retail copy. BUT, I am skeptical about those copies that come with those really 'sweet' computer deals, that will 'only' work on that specific hardware. My statements apply to those who possess a legal copy of WinXP, oem or retail that can be installed on more than one system successfully. Of course you may need to call microsoft and let them know why you are moving from one hardware settup to another in order to activate the copy.
First back up your files. Then reformat your harddrive and reinstall windows XP. Then install the chipset drivers for your system, then lan drivers. Then Graphics drivers for whatever card you have. Go online and download the latest edition of SP2 from microsoft. There are a few different methods of doing this I won't elaborate on here. Follow whatever instructions microsoft provides concerning how to apply SP2 to your XP. After you are done then install BF2.
I have heard that the early versions of SP2 did have bugs but that microsoft has fixed them. Of course all newly released software has bugs. So if you are using the SP2 that was released right when it came out you might want to reinstall windows and patch it with the latest version or perhaps patch the SP2 you currently have. But the thing about me is I have this obsession with reinstalling windows just to make sure things are perfect. Of course if you are just patching the SP2 you already have then you will want to uninstall BF2 completely first. Then patch. Then reinstall bf2.
If after you have done all this and you are having probs with BF2 and then you uninstall sp2 and find that that this corrected your problems, only then would I say its ok to not run BF2 with SP2.
