What is your Pet peeve when it comes to CoH
Mine is when someone says "I've been here since Beta"
SO WHAT! All that proves is you been paying longer then I, and when the game dies and if we both play till the end you will have paid more then I.
Never pet a burning dog, and in COH thats GOOD advice!!

Yeah it doesn't mean much does it. Having been here since Beta myself all I can say about it is that some stuff has changed, some has remained the same and in the end it doesn't really matter much does it.
Another pet peeve of mine is when people preface their statements with "Well I have a level XX " as if level alone made them some sort of expert at CoH or even that AT. I have seen a lot of really bad players and builds make it to upper levels of games for a number of reasons. Mostly it is due to the sheer number of hours playing and a lot of help from friends and groups.
I know that a lot of folks might disagree with me, but IMHO games like this are 20% skill and 80% time invested. I always figured a monkey with a keyboard could make it to the level cap given enough time to play the game. I mean its a fun game, but lets face it..a simple one.
So when people play the "level card" as a preface for their knowledge instead of just stating an intelligent point I pretty much just ignore them. I have heard some far more knowledgeable statements from level 4's in the many games I have played than I have heard from some level 40's.
If people have to preface their comments with "I have been here since beta, or I have a level 40 AT so.." it pretty much says they really don't have conviction in the knowledge of their statements on their own, so they are throwing in the "I have been here longer than you, or my character is higher level than yours" statements as a substitute.
Reminds me of when I was a kid and we used to have arguments like "My Dad is stronger than your Dad" or "We have lived here longer than you have."
People don't "own" or "control" a game by how long they have been here and people don't necessarily know more about a game nor are they necessarily a better player based on level alone.

I agree with both on the pet peeves...some of mine are...
1. People screaming how they pay money to play the game. This comes up with every patch and nerf, people shrieking how they will quit if the devs don't put the exploit they have been using since "beta" back so their heroes can't be beaten...the patches are the same and the nerfs still stand, yet they are still here, crying and whining about how much the game sucks. (Now I have used a quote similar from time to time, but, my argument is with people saying that since I like to play solo I shouldn't be playing this game...I tell them, "I pay to play this game every month the way I want to, when you start paying my subscription, then you can tell me how to play.")
2. On the main CoH website, people trolling your discussion threads and totally changing the topic to what they want to bitch about, cause they don't have the danglies to start their own thread.
3. People demanding answers to their question to the devs within 5 minutes of their posting. Like the devs and programmers have nothing to do all day except sit at the website and refresh the page waiting with baited breath to answer every single question asked the second its asked. This is usually found with the phrase, "If they don't answer in the next 5 minutes then I'm canceling my subscription! I've never had such poor customer service!" Yet you check their original post and it's got a time stamp of about 20 minutes earlier.
That's with the CoH website(not this one), now IN game pet peeves are...
1) People who "afk" in a heavy spawn areas. Last night someone afked in a spot where a group of 7 Hellions normally spawn...for 4 hours!! I wasn't the only one this annoyed, numerous people were complaining about this. It's not just this instance that's annoying, it happens in every zone.
2) People "calling" groups of mobs as their fights. I'm sorry, that's the stupidest thing I've seen to date in this game. If you aren't within eye site or already fighting the mob when I start fighting, then it ain't yours to claim. It's not like there's a lack of mob groups to fight in this game, continue on and find another.
3) The constant drone in the chat window of the Kill Stealing whine.
And the biggest pet peeve I have in the game...
Damnit people!! Stop using CoH as a dating service. If you want a date so bad, log off and go to a bar to meet someone. I'm a guy and the majority of my avatars are female, stop coming up to me and using bad pick up lines on me, the lamest being, "Hey your sexy! My name is "blah blah", what's yours?" And on the flip side, stop doing that to my male characters as well. Yes, all my male avatars have a gay flair to them and it's obvious a gay male created them, thanks to my inherent genetic keen fashion sense, but, that doesn't mean I'm looking to date you because you think my character has a "HOT LOOKING BUTT". I have yet to see an ugly avatar, male or female, in the game and if you take time to notice, everyone's butt looks the same! Just because mine is wrapped in hot pink leather doesn't make it look any better then the rest...well, maybe it does, but you get my meaning! LOL!!
The last peeve is meant as a humorous attempt at a gripe, but, it is annoying. This is a game, if you want to meet Mr. or Ms. Right Now, go join e harmony.com!

I hate how I can't use speed boost on myself. That'd be nice. Very very nice.
Even just the ability to target myself would be useful. In case I don't remember what lvl I am I can click to find out instead of looking it up on ID.

just a caveat to the people who claim they know all since they are lvl 50 pwnzoorz.
I hate the people that try to discredit you because you aren't a lvl 50 of (insert Archetype here).
I can't stand people who insult you then call you the troll
I hate KS'ers (you may hate the drone of KS bitching, i always make sure to report the name of a KSer to the broadcast to assure the person is properly blacklisted)
I hate people that join groups then complain that there are too many controllers or not enough blasters and quit (YOU CAN NEVER HAVE ENOUGH CONTROLLERS! MWA HA HA HA).

I personally feel that the more you play any game, the bigger nerd you are, so you should never judge a person's character that person's avatar level.
However, when it comes to finding out the most efficient way to do something, or tackling the harder tasks, I will look at that person's level or depth of knowledge on the subject and make some sort of judgement call on the ability he may have for the task at hand. I never assume anyone is completley wrong from the get-go, but even the level 50 players do operate on a perspective that some of us simply dont have.
Let it also be known that there are a lot of level 50 players that are very ignorant of the mechanics of the game. While they may know how to level faster then others, that doesn't mean they understand what the best combination of Archetypes for a Task Force may be.
As for me, I'm going on level 28 right now, and 99% of that was done solo. I also did it in 8 days, and I feel that makes me somewhat of a good source of information for my class and solo leveling. However, that doesn't mean I know jack-shite about the roles of other Archetypes in accorance with my character. I'll never boast I know something I don't, I'll leave that for the my knowledgable players.

A couple I forgot above...
Folks who teleport you without any warning.
People who join a task force confirming that they can make the commitment of at least 4 hours and say they have to go 30 minutes into it.

I use to TP without asking, cuz thats what always happened to me, till someone yelled at me for it, so I ask now :)
As for the TF's I HATE that too, I mean I understand if they thought 4 hours and after 4 hours you aren't even half done, been on so like that, or if Mapserver keeps dropping, been on one like that, but all in all, if you start one you should stay!

Boy, I have to agree with everyone else's pet peeves, and add my own...
Being randomly invited to a team. Could you at least talk to me first? My Seek Team flag wasn't up, why did you think I wanted to team with you? *sigh* I know it can't be just my kickin' costume that's making you think I'd be an uber addition to your team... why not ask me?

Biggest pet peeve: lower lvl characters always wanting me to bring in my higher lvl blaster so they don't have to work as hard for mission (why would a lvl 12 need a lvl 17 blaster to finish a mission i will never know)
I also hate being on a team, getting a new addition to the team, doing their mission and them bailing from the team as soon as we are done (same goes for bailing as soon as they lvl). When i start a team i'm in it for the long haul, and it is frustrating trying to find someone to replace another every 15 min or so.
Those annonying people who have you on their friends list who start /tell you as soon as you (or they) log in, and keep talking to you even when you tell them you are busy, even worse is when you are in a battle and not answering them and they start to yell at you for "ignoring" them.
Oh and how about those teams you join (i know all of you have) that are the worse teams ever, the ones that can't work together and end up attacking two (or three) different mobs at one time. Those that don't run when you tell them and end up yelling at you for "letting" them die.
I could probably list a couple dozen or so more pet peeves, but this will do for now.
Oh yeah, just remembered one more that just kills me..... when a blaster thinks they are a tanker and charges into the battle making the healer use all their endurance keeping them alive (to no avail) and that person asking after every death, "why am I always the one dying"

Being randomly invited to a team is one thing and it certainly is annoying. But even wierder are the people who randomly invite you to join their Super Group. I had this happen to me twice today. Not a word, just an invite to their Super Group.
Now if I was to form a Super Group myself I would personally want to recruit quality individuals to fill the position and make it a strong group and team. I can't imagine what would possess anyone to want a Super Group make up of any random individual who accepts their wordless invitation hehe.

My pet peeve is being invited to a team, when I wasn't seeking a team or being invited without first talking to me about it. Then to add salt to the wound, when I refuse the request cussing at me about it, oh yea that really makes me want to team up with you. Makes me want to teleport you off the nearest ledge into a group of purple mobs.
And having spent a considerable amount of time, playing as a defender/empath I know exactly what you are talking about when it comes to blasters thinking they are tanks or scrappers. I can see them doing the pulling if required and possibly taking damage because of it. But you have to remember you do not have a lot more hit points than my healer does so when that blaster takes aggro they best be prepared to deal with it. Without blaming the healer.
Personally my blasters don't have any melee attacks. When I play a blaster if a mob is close enough to melee me, than it is time for me to move. Besides instead of taking the melee attacks that are available in blaster's secondary power set. I use those power slots to take something useful such as the fitness power pool.

All mine have have been listed above except one, its not about the players its about the game itself.
The music.
Not the 'music' that comes sputting out of the boombox but the zone change music. It causes me to loose connection almost every time. Always fun while doing a timed mission thats on the other side of the map and you dont have any travel powers.
Between 6 and 10 pm when traffic is peaked there shouldnt be any zone change notice, maybe its just me but it is a cripple to my gameplay. I no longer hunt near zone borders, because when I run into a mob and just as I through my 1st attack and freeze up so I can know that I've just entered crystal lake, I find either (A) the mob is gone, or (B) im now litening to the sound of the Teleporting device at the hospital. (which by the way is where the Sorcerer screenshots ive posted here came from, guess he wanted more of a fight from me than what he got.)

I don't get why people get angry at being invited out of nowhere. If you are A) On team seek, or B) standing around a tf character for no apparent reason, then I'm going to invite you if I need you. It's quicker and easier for me to do that and then tell you what we're doing as a team than try and send you a tell by typing out your usually long complicated name, followed by a comma and hope and pray that someone hasn't already taken you. I don't mind if after you've joined and we've told you what we're doing that you politely leave. Don't join, quit then cuss me out for what you precieve as a wrong.

If I had my teamseek flag up or if I was standing around a tf npc with my finger up my nose, I'd be delighted with an invite... but when I'm running to a mission, or standing by the trainer or enhancement seller in AP or GC, and someone does a random invite? I usually just decline without saying a word. A few times I've been asked why I declined, and I simply say I'm busy doing my own missions, and/or am about to log. I can only think of one time where someone has been verbally abusive after my decline, and boy, that made me feel good about refusing his team invite!
Ciao!

Got another one, and I'm hope I'm not repeating myself here, I know I already posted to the CoH gamesite and instantly got flamed...why I don't know and then the thread just vanished in less then 2 hours. Actually that's pet peeve that is really starting to burn my butt on the gamesite. I post a legit question on the forums over there and it gets deleted in less then a day, yet, someone posts a "nerf this power" thread and it goes on for weeks with literally 150 pages of people doing nothing but insulting each other.
Anyway, my pet peeve in the game is the civilian population. These people can walk through walls, dumpsters, cars, moving cars, they walk through huge ganges of bad guys on the streets and literally walk on air every now and then...yet they push me out of the way trying to run from the middle of a fight I'm in and tonight, again!, pushed me off a bridge ledge I was standing on trying to target a Hellion below (to see how far my sniper powers would fire). Why can't the devs make the people push the bad guys as well or better yet, just make them intangable to us as well instead of pushing us out of the way, usually while we're trying to save them!!!
I know, I know..."WAH WAH WAH, BLAH BLAH BLAH!" Sorry, it just almost makes me mad as hell with this problem.

Heh...good points. I get frusterated when they push me off of rail-less stairwells I have just carefully navigated my way to the top of, or push me out of what might be a narrow window of visibility for a sniper shot.
Seems strange we cant land on cars, blimps, boats etc. as they are intangible, but people who we are trying to save can rudely push us out of the way.
Of course it also seems strange that you save them on say they second floor and instead of taking the down elevator and exiting the building you see them taking the up elevator to the third floor or just running around the floor with their arms up, but thats another story hehe.

Seeing a cop or worse, a cop in full SWAT gear cowering and on the verge of pissing his/her pants cause some gang thug is harassing them. Also seeing female Steve's or Billy or whatever . Likewise for male Jane's or Jennifer's or such.
Surely the devs can at least give the random NPC generators the ability to distinguish between male and female and name them accordingly.

My personal favorite is the people pushing my scrapper too far from range when lighting off a combo of punches. Nothing beats getting too far away 6 times in a row. Only other real big gripe is the player base inviting you to SG all the time, even when your at the SG recruiter and your just finished making yours. Counldn't believe that when I was finally done with my opions.

I agree with many of the pet peeves already mentioned, and thought I'd shout in one of mine:
I hate it when I travel to the train, choose my selected zone to travel to, then I have to wait for the train to get there, then when it does, I have to wait for the load screen to bring up the next zone. Yeah, the animation of getting on the train is neat and all, but I would much rather it take me directly to the load screen rather than wait for the next train to arrive.

As for the names of the NPCs, I read on a forum somewhere that the names were taken from census information, therefore making the odd named NPCs correct. I'm sorry. I don't know any woman named Steve, etc, etc, etc.
As for pet peeves, there is one in particular. I can agree with everyone's posts thus far, but my favorite is this:
I have a friend, a Illusion/Radiation Controller. My main is a blaster. I've learned not to trust him. He has limited healing capabilities and wants the two of us to go off hunting together. He's one level higher than me at this time, so no problem, right? Wrong. He says that he won't bite off more than he can chew, an that he'll keep me alive. Funny, but I've learned to watch out for myself. The first few times, I trusted him, then racked up over 60k debt. Then he proceeds to tell me why I keep dying, when the truth is that he wasn't even using his healing powers and attacking groups of mobs 6 levels higher in huge packs. As I stated earlier, I look out for myself now.

I agree with LordNikon. I was in the tailor shop the other day and someone randomly asked if i would give them 10k. Granted, i am level 33, and to me 10k is nothing. But i have earned everything that i have, aside from the occasional gift from a friend. When i told him to earn it like i did, he proceeded to call me a "phocking n00b". Big talk coming from a level 18 character to someone with more than one toon higher level than his.

My other big pet peeve is people who see me and just assume I will drop everything I’m doing and power level them up to
The other day I was in FF and after grabbing some enhancements from penny went afk for minute or two. While I was gone a level 20 had shown up and asked if I could pl him. Well being afk I didn’t see him msg me and thus didn’t respond. Well he didn’t like the thought of not being replied to instantly so he began to cuss me out, call me a "fuxing n00b fagg0t" and lots of other things. He kept this up for about 20 or so lines (yes I counted). Well when I returned to the computer I saw I was flooded with tells and after scrolling through them I couldn’t stop laughing. I sent one message to him and it read something like this. "Not having any missions to run atm I would have happily helped you, however since you cant keep your cool and show a little self control, you get nothing. Have a nice day." He saw this and almost immediately began to kiss my ass for the next 10 minutes. I put him on ignore just to shut him up but I’m sure he kept trying to send me compliments to get me to change my mind. *rolls his eyes*
The moral to today’s story kids is to not call the person who you want to help you a "fuxing n00b fagg0t" and expect to get anything.

| QUOTE | | I agree with LordNikon. I was in the tailor shop the other day and someone randomly asked if i would give them 10k. Granted, i am level 33, and to me 10k is nothing. But i have earned everything that i have, aside from the occasional gift from a friend. When i told him to earn it like i did, he proceeded to call me a \"phocking n00b\". Big talk coming from a level 18 character to someone with more than one toon higher level than his. |
I fully agree, I ended up wasting quite a bit of time and influnence because of a similiar issue. I was waiting for some friends to log into the game, expecting a tell and an invite at any minute. But I got bored and decided to go to the tailors while I was waiting.
As I am busy in the tailor's screen modifying my costume. I hear the sound that the game makes when you receive a tell. This part I recognize as my fault, but I was overly anxious to receive the tell I was expecting, so I went ahead and exited the tailors screen instead of backing out of it, leaving my custome at the point it was at, even though I wasn't finished.
Anyways, I get out of the screen, and there is there the tell in my chat window and a team invite. I didn't even bother to read the name, again my fault, but the invite and the tell was from some jerk named Rain'. Not asking me, mind you, but demanding that I give him money. I had a few tense words with him, about why he didn't go earn influence the way everyone else did, at which point he proceded to cuss at me and call me a high level snob and a few other non-family oriented words.
So the bottom line is, yeah I learned my lessons, in the tailor's screen back out of it, if I am not finished. And stay away from jerks named Rain'

Well get this, sometimes when I'm bored I go to GC or AP and find level 5's and lower 2500 influence, Some of these Heroes are newbies and thank me in Local instead of a tell, I had a level 36 (i'm only a level 34) start cussing me out cuz I was "picking" favorites. I tried to explain that I was just helping new heroes and that 2500 to him would only be a couple of kills while 2500 to a newbie is sooooooooo much more, he didn't care and I put him on my ignore list
Never pet a burning dog, and in COH thats GOOD advice!!

and thats cool, if you want to give out money and help some new players out, more power to you but its when they BEG for money cause were higher level. Thats the peeve, and kudos to you for helping out. When i'm bored (past week or so...*points to his 215k debt*) i simply fly around steel and give tp's and just general help to any questions people have over broadcast/request.
