| CoH and a taste of the Dark Side… |
|
|
|
Well… Maybe punishment was in store for me tonight or maybe not. But I sure got a taste of hanging with the wrong people. Or at least a few wrong people. After finishing up the Clockwork King TF yet again, I set my sights upon the next TF level from Independence Port. I had someone about 5 levels above me ready to sidekick me and was eager to go. At the last second he had to leave, and another group picked me up. Swallowing my fear I set off with them on a brand new quest. Within the first few minutes I knew I was in deep trouble. My only weapon against a level 25 or 26 from my level 21 tool kit was ZAP and I was hitting for 2 and 3 points about every other hit. This was not good. I should have quit right then and there, but I choose to stick it out no matter what.
The group was noticeably too low in general for the TF. I think we were an hour or more into the TF and had not finished the first inside mission yet. We were making kills, but they were slow and far between. Even with creatures being killed all around me, I rarely saw any XP hit my screen. But when it did it was when someone killed something BIG and about 187 XP would hit all at once.
I whole heartedly recommend that if you are not level 24+ and on the Independence Port Task Force that you get someone to sidekick you and fast!
When I joined this group I was 786xp from level 22. My first death set me back a bit, but in an hour I had removed all of my debt. In a single battle that lasts over a half an hour, you can do that kind of thing. Suddenly the main person that was protecting me died, and others were red and going down fast. I had a tiny bit of red left on my bar and sprinted to the elevator and entered just as a zap hit me and missed. I was safe on the floor below. I quickly knelt down to re-heal which is one of my special powers and Dr. Aspen teleported me back up stairs into a room full of bad guys that killed me instantly…
Here is where the complex dark sides fall into place. Now I know that Dr. Aspen had the best of intentions, but he never checked the map to see where I was, he teleported me into an unsafe and unsecured area. Having “Teleport Friend” also, I know the power is quite useful for getting people out of a bad spot. Right about that point, I should have kept my mouth shut, but I had to yell out THANKS A LOT!!! And spam it four times. I then posted that I had already escaped to the floor below and was already safe. The vulgar tells to me instantly started flowing in like a tidal wave and I knew it was time to go, and I bailed from the group. This caused the leader of the group Lady Capone to start into some very graphic and colorful language along with more graphic comments from Dr. Aspen and others.
I am going to chalk this one up to too much time for everyone in a quest to hard for the group assembled and a lot of repressed frustration within all of us. Oh, and a reminder to find that language filter and to turn it on… My virgin ears! L O L…

OUCH!! I feel the pain and pat your back. My first TF wasn't as tramatic as your TF that night, but, I was sidekicked to a level 26 and in the middle of the mission he suddenly said, "Oops, sorry guys gotta run" and quit the TF and logged out, leaving me alone, odd man out, and in the middle of a room of level 28 clockworks, me being level 16. I died, and and it hurt, alot. LOL!!! Actually I died instantly, I think one of the friggin' things just looked at me and I fell over dead...excuse me, seriously KOed. They rezed me when the fight was over and I went my merry little way. I chalk it up to learning XP, with no XP at all. What I did accomplish was a blast though, I can't wait to do more TF stuff in the near future.

I feel your pain on that as well and it reminds me of one of my pet peeves I should add to that forum. People who teleport you without warning or confirmation. I belong to a SG on Freedom Server and that is one of their few "rules."
Aides with teleport ability are required to ask permission to teleport a hero and must receive affirmative confirmation from the hero before doing so...
There is a good reason for this and your story is an excellent case in point.

I was killed due to a teleport once. Probably my fault. I told them they could teleport me. I was midjump when the teleport came and ended up jumping into a group of lvl 27 baddies (me a 21). Yeah, it hurt. My team ended up getting revenge as we slaughtered them. Not sure how we managed it with a lvl 25 blaster, a lvl 23 scrapper, a lvl 21 blaster, and me, a 21 controller. I was suprised that almost all my holds hit. Those DOs and SOs really really help.

Yeah they do..particularly when they are multi-slotted. Hard to complain much though if you tell them its OK I guess hehe. Can't image why someone would teleport an injured teammate back into the heat of battle like what happened to Nuker though. Thats either not paying attention or someone had a death wish for him lol.

I did the same tf as the original poster with a 21st level empath/defender so hitting the mob wasn't a priority with me. But you are right about the xps you can get from this tf. What started out at the beginning as 21st level character at the end was close to being a level 24 character.
And as far as the teleport incident goes, from what I understand after the next big upgrade due this fall that will no longer be an issue. I beleive if I read it right, both teleportation and resurrection will require a confirmation from the target of these powers.

You read it correctly! Teleport and Res will both require a confirmation. Now if they would just put a toggle in for invites so you can turn it off and not get those random drive by team/super group invites I would be a happy camper lol.
