So I ordered a pizza last night and was all in antisipation when this deliciouse smelling pizza showed up and I opened the lid after paying the guy off and......... NO CHEESE! I didnt order a cheeseless pizza (when you do you end up with extra cheese) but my pizza had a definate cheese malfunction. OK it had cheese, but you could count the individual strands of cheese on each slice. Talk about your let down. I almost cried.

I got you beat. I live in North Minneapolis. 'Round here, that is the hood. Only one place is brave enough to deliver... Papa John's. So I call em, ask for a pizza and breadsticks with extra garlic butter dipping sauce. The guy brings it an hour and a half and 2 phone calls later (on a Tuesaday night). The pizza is cold, as are the breadsticks, and I only get one sauce. I go to pay with a check. He tells me they don't take check, a fact that he didn't mention on the phone. I ask if he takes credit card, he says that he does, and he has to call it in on the phone. HE THEN ASKS TO USE MY PHONE! So I let him (grrr), and he calls it in and then gives me my pizza. He leaves, and that's when we figure out that the pizza is ice cold. I am not a mean man, but this is pizza for god's sake! So I call the manager, bitch up a storm, and he sends me a new one. I tell him to make sure to send more sauce. New pizza comes... 45 MINUTES LATER. Slightly luke warm, no sauce. I don't order pizza in the hood anymore.

We joke in my house that Pizza Hut is our personal chef.

First off, let me preface this whole reply by saying, I'm a HUGE pizza SNOB! If it's not PERFECT, I don't want it.
Secondly, Nakoma...Papa Johns Pizza SUCKS! However, I do know from ex-roommate experience that they certainly WILL take a check. In fact, you can order pizza from their website and on the site, you can select "Check" as a form of payment.
Thirdly, Pizza Hut is semi-acceptable pizza. However, you can taste the frozen-ness of their dough. I'm not a big fan of that.
The best possible pizza always comes from a Ma and Pa type pizza joint. Preferably in New Haven, Connecticut...although Providence, RI has some good pizza places too.
God, I'm going to miss good pizza when I move to Florida.

No idea about Florida, but if you ever come to Tempe, you probably want Gus's. My own favorite is Mama's. I know it's a generic name, so I guess I have to specify the Mama's at Myrtle and University.
In case you're wondering, my belief is that pizza is all about the cheese. You can never have too much cheese on your pizza. Cheeze stuffed cheese pizza with extra cheese, extra cheese and extra cheese, please!
So now you know why I would say that sending me a cheeseless pizza would be like a declaration of war.

So if pizza is all about cheese then look no further than a famous Chicago stuffed pizza. My hometown is infamous for making these delicious but rediculously unhealthy pizzas as opposed to those cardboard thin New York style pizzas.
mmmmmm....stuffed pizza...

That is EXACTLY what I meant. That sounds delightfully tempting. You can get one like that at Mama's, too. Now you have me wishing they didn't close so darn early in the summer...
...and next time I'm in Chicago, I'm going to have to try to find that place...
What's the name of the one you'd reccomend?

Nancy's is a great small chain. Lou Malnatti's is probably the most famous, but some people claim they aren't as good as they used to be. Last time I had one it was still pretty darn good to me. Ron brought up a good point in that Ma and Pa pizza joints usually make the best pies around. Nancy's is one of these smaller places.

First off, Papa's is the only place that delivers to my area, because apparently the drivers are braver than most, or more desperate than most. Secondly, I have used a check to pay for Papa's in other cities and suburbs, but up in da hood, they do not accept checks. Could be from all the investment bankers and doctors that live in the area with all their good credit...
And yes, I am being facetious. Very.

On the New York/Chicago issue...
Real pizza is a big slice of thin crust New York style pizza. That stuff in Chicago is immitation pizza! It's like a travesty! The crust just takes away from the delight that is Pizza...the toppings and cheese! If you have a thick crust, all you're tasting is the dough!

THIN CRUST!!!!! And here I was thinking about the thick fluffy doughy crust that I love and crave and..... well you get the point I guess. And I have to admit Pizza Hut sucks. Their sauce is so sweet and tangy its discusting. I like Toppers Pizza in California with artichoke hearts and big chunks of grilled chicken and.... I have got to stop talking about this or go grab a bib.

Papa Johns.....lets see Papa needs to keep pizza in oven longer, how many times have I had to reheat my pizza even after it was delivered in 20minutes.
Pizza Hut....good stuff, bread sticks are better.
Donatos....love the think crust and tons of pepperoni
In Cincy we have a hometown place called Larosa's and that is probably the best around, there are some smaller/lesser known makers that have some great pizza but Larosa's takes the cake...errr.....pizza.
And whats with all the extra cheese freaks, didnt get enough dairy or something? God less cheese the better, not saying no cheese but just the basic coverage will do, now my pizza is the Heart Attack in the Box! Pepperoni, Ham, Bacon, Sausage and any other meat related products that can adorn. Great stuff! Love the Meat Toppers, slowly my arteries seal shut but all worth it......must stop typing...arm going numb.....

I also agree with Grifter and War Shadow the cheese dosent bother me and i also love anything meaty on top, but the sauce has to be right aswell. I find that pizza Hut's sause tastes to processed. We have two nice local pizza shops called Pizza Delight and Rominoes Pizza (TBH I don't know how they think of the names) Even thought there is a 30 minute wait everything is made fresh. I also Like dominoes Pizza for thier sauce.
.:EDIT:.
Sorry about the double post I think I was a bit impatient there and pressed to quickly.

ah Grif, LaRosas... good stuff. It's here near me too. Good pizza. Being from Ohio ever had a Marions??? Oh MY GOD... best pizza every. Celebs from Ohio come back just to get a Marions pizza. :)
But yeah a pizza is all about the cheeze, I've given up finding a good pizza place, I've started making my own.
And at least they'll deliver to you. My old house, the middle of friggen town... I couldn't get delivery cause the street was near a bad part of town. Strangest thing I've ever heard of. But I live in a nice area now, I can get delivery any time I want. :)

We got a place in Minneapolis I like called Pizza Luce'. Amongst all the good pizzas they make, I really enjoy their mashed potato pizza (gasp!). Good crust, mashed potatos, feta cheese crumbles, tomatos and prochuto ham (sp?)... good enough to make me drive and go get it!

If you lose the pizza cost you around $65.00, if you win you and your friend recieve $50.00 cash, two T-shirts and the Pizza is on the house.
If your not that brave, or hungry, they make the best pizza Ive ever had. Unfortunatly theyre over 6 hours away for me.

Personally, I'm a fan of independent based pizza places, real ma and pa run businesses. I find that their pizza is just as good and since most people don't buy from them as they do the big-wigs, service is faster and their prices a lower.
Of course, that doesn't always spring true, I've had some pretty crummy pizzas from these places, so I like to shop around and find a good small time business and stay with them.
Another problem is, due to big business pizza places, they don't always last that long and I have to hunt around again.

Blasphemer!!!
There was a place in Fall River, MA that I used to go to when I was a teenager. Creatively enough, it was called A1. They used to pile on the cheese so high, it was MOUNDED over the pizza. They would put a layer of cheese, the toppings you ordered and then mound the cheese over them.
It was god-like.

If you ever pass thru this speck on the map ( Flemington NJ )
the best is La Pizza Cucina ! Ohhhh garlic parmigan crust on their slices of heaven. Don't forget the pepperoni.
Now I have to make a phone call & get some dinner !

gotta agree with grifter myself. if im at work ill call up donatoes and order a traditional crust serious meat pizza.
if im at home ill hit up papa johns website, punch in the credit card and im all set. all i have to do is sign for it. although last time i got from papa's the delivery guy told me my total, im thinkin i used a credit card. "oh was this a credit card order? do u want me to get the reciept and bring it back for u to sign? " i told him no it was ok. gotta give the older gents a bit of break.
we have a local place called bellacinos. they have some great pizza, i can order it, walk down 2 stores, if im at work, its done in 15 mins. might think me odd, but i love getting meatballs on their pizza. its not really meatballs tho, they are flat. like its a roll they just slice off pieces of it. so if ever in NE ohio try em out.
