My Guildmate and I have been working on Thunder head for the past several weeks now and are starting to get frusterated. I have talked to people that have been trying to compleat it for over a month. I just want to hear from those of you that either have beaten it, or are in the same situation as I. Is there a specific stratigy that we MUST follow, or is it the simple fact that every group i join is under equiped or doesnt stick together... whats your imput?

In all missions remember u need a good grp but for thunderhead ppl say it is a ez mission if u got a grp that actually play with the mission nd dont leave if they die u need a grp wiff patience nd know wat to do i have done the mission nd i beaten it with 3 monks 1 heal 1 prot 1 smite 2 warriors 1 ele whihc was me 1 mes nd a necro nd we beat the mission nd under 4-10mins. (dont remember how long i beat the mission)

Ahhh Thunderhead my most favorite mission. Its up there with my other favorite things like shoving a fork in my eye and pouring boiling water down my back and sliding naked across sandpaper...
Anyways key things for thunderhead are as follows: Please for the lvoe of god of a decent group and 2 monks. Hench or
Human doesnt really matter. Stay togther for crying out oud. You dont qant ur monks and a ranger going left qwhile ur wars and wahtever else uve got go right. It wont turn out pretty. In the end when defneding the king, STAY NEXT TO HIM. If you chill by the king and make sure your or one of your buddies is aggroed before him it limits your battles because the Stone Summit fights the Mursaat making the ones that get to you weaker/and in smaller packs. Its not 100% guarnteed stratagy BUT it will increase ur chances of survival. Any noob or self centered "i am invincable warrior" or omfg i took 5 damage and im the monk... RUN AWAY! guy can mess up even a good plan. so the NUMBER 1 thing is to LISTEN to each other.

Thanks guys... I actually just beat THK. Kick Ass, group. We had one person on East balistas, one on West (both casters so they could cast on the gate without having to go to far from the balistas). That helped us take their health down significantly before they even got to us. One monk on each side, along with 2 warriors on the East and one on the West (due to the majority of attacks comming from the east). To top it off we had one extra caster (Pyro) in the middle to go where the help was needed (mainly the east gate). Thanks again guys... and hopefully this post will help any one else that has trouble with the Nororious Thunderhead Keep!!

ya know.. I am really starting to dispise this mission.. I have attempted it 3 times now 2 with only henchies thats not gonna work since they dont heal the king... and one with a group we did great but lacked the coordination after you kill that guy on the lizard then get swarmed..
Thanks for the great posts in this thread.. Im gonna have to lead next time.. 8)

meh My Guildies: Me (ranger) My necro friend(death magic lvl 18 minions ;D) and Ele (Pyro) with rest henchies beat THK like that encountered to trouble too :P

Thunderhead keep is not fun. I'm done playing this game. I feel like i just won't come back to it ever, but I'll probably be back in a couple weeks.
PS - we had a good group. Only one primary Mo, 5 secondary Mo's, and were extremely well organized. But what do you do when for three days straight there are never more than 3 monks available and 5 groupse trying to take them? It's BS. There's something seriously flawed with the design of this level. Not buggie, just a balance that is makes this game not a game . aaghxhsfrustrationexxxxxhios

Dude, I was about to start a thread on this same issue.
I have tried with good groups, bad groups, ok groups, and something ALWAYS happens. I am usually one of the last ones left standing but since I am a Necro I cannot heal the king and well, you know what happens next...
I wish someone would shed some light on how to properly do this mission. of course, one of the hardest parts of the game is to team up with smart people that listen....

I have done this mission three times. Once with my e/mo and another time with a monk/mes.
Both times the group had done this before and listened to the leader. Had rangers or elmentalist at cats and cleaned out middle. Then took the King to the top and split the group to cover each gate. When we started getting over run we retreated to the top and played king of the mountain. One monks main job was healing the king. As a half circle at the top we were strong enough to survive.
Just DON"T light the beacons...it brings even more to you.
Oh, it is nice if the rangers set traps at the top at the entrance of the cats while they are up there firing them.
Be flexible and don't leave your group.

I personally was lucky during the mission, in the sense that in many cases the king was about to die but in some odd way i managed to make him survive... i managed to do the mission on something like my fifth try with only henchmen. i think that the key of the mission is just to take your time and wait for the king to regen. the only part that i really hated about the mission was the end... it just seemed like it would never come to an end :/!

Ok. Here is the group setup for Thunder Keep.
2 Monks (if you MUST take a hench, take Lina(if shes avail, I forgot) DO NOT TAKE 2 HENCH.
2 Warriors (When asking for warriors, ask what armor they have and what health they have, If they arn't wearing atleast 1.5k armor and have 500+health Don't take them)
1 Necro (Necros are one of the BEST assests for this mission, make sure they are blood and have Well of Blood and Blood Ritual. Both of these are blood spells and if they do not have them do not take them)
1 Mesmer (This is very difficult to get, but mesmers are EXTREMELY useful against the Muraat. However, if you cannot get one a mesmer get a second ele)
1 Elementalist ( AOE. Make sure they have it, that is all.)
1 Ranger ( Poison Specialized Ranger make sure. Also make sure they have distracting shot. Most rangers will not have it, but it is extremely helpful against the Mursaat)
This is the GROUP setup necessary, I expect you all will know how to do the actual fighting. However I'll give these little tidbits.
Make sure you have someone calling a target, in this place the Order should be Healers(Dolyaks/Murs Monks) Casters(Mursat Necro/Elementalists) Fighters (Jade/Jadebow). And ALL bosses LAST UNLESS ONE IS A MONK.
Make sure your Monks divide up the healing. One for each warrior, one for each caster. Less to remember, easier to focus.
Make sure your group all targets the target called, the faster a corpse is down the faster a Well of Blood can go up.
Getting to the Fort itself is extremely easy, just pull slowly and be tactitious, don't run in to a group of six. For the Boss fight with Dargar(Stone Summit Leader) make sure you go up and around killing all the adds before you fight him.
DO NOT DO THE BEACONS. It will be extremely slow and long but your GUARENTEEED not to die.
Have your elementalists or mesmers on the catapults, one warrior on each side, the ranger on one side, the necro on the other. And the two monks in the middle, have the monks run when they bling, and when they start coming from BOTH Sides at the SAME time, retreat to the king and defend there.
This strat is almost guarenteed to work, tell me your thoughts and opinions.

I completed the mission yesterday by the 'Stick to the king method' It worked fine and we beat it without anyone getting killed :o. And thats not all because one guy left at some point (m8 of em said he crashed).
This was only my second try at it, so I am wuite happy we made it :).
A Revolution is near!

Been stuck on this mission like two weeks now. Tried to get our Guild mates to help but they are more interested in PvP. But thanks for all great imput. There is only two of us with 6 henchies. I'm a Ranger/monk trying to keep the king alive and my friend is a Necro. We are making the mistake of lighting the beacans and getting over run. We will try tonight again and Not light the beacans and see if we can do it. Thanks again for all the fine input to this mission.

For this mission you really need to do a few things.
Before You Kill the boss in the keep, venture out through the gates, and kill some jades! This will reduce the amount from invading. Whatever you do dont light the beakons this just makes the mission a whole lot harder.
After you've killed the boss, have 1 man on each of the sets of catapults (one on left and one on right). With the catapults you can normally take out the enemies before they arrive :D. Have about 2men on each gate to support the ghosts and support eachother when there is a large attack, but whatever you do do not abandon a gate! there should always be one person at a gate at any one time. Doing this you should be able to beat the mission.

Ok, here it is plain and simple, I did this mission with hencemen at lvl 14. I did it again at lvl 18 because people did not believe me. They wanted to see screen shots of me doing this. If I figure how to load an image, I will do so. If someone helps me with this, I will load the proof.

ok, i knew I'd come crawling back to this game eventually. I've now beaten this with 2 or 3 chars... but I stand by my "not fun" "not game" statement regarding this lv.

In the end this game comes down to how good the people you are with are. I got together a random group. We had 2 wars, 1 main monk, 2 eles, a mes, a necro, and Alesia.
When we got to the defend part, we split up into 2 groups...
I am an ele/mo with 6 healing, so i took the 2 wars and the mes for the cat, the other side had the rest, now with only 6 healing and only 2 healing spells i was only a little help... but we did it with ease, only had 1 guy die, and he was rezed withing seconds
So the point is, even with a not so great team, you can still beat it if everyone nos how to correctly use there chars
Wait...you mean to tell me that Guild Wars isnt real life?

I've grasped the basics of this mission by reading several guides, and trying it 13 times now. it all depends on the IQ of the people you're with.... Getting a good group is tough, due to the extreme number of idiots out there....

I love this mission, requires some thought and skill (and a little luck). An easy mission is soooo disappointing. Just did it this weekend with a new char., random groups failed 2x, but when I got a couple of guildies online it went smooth... I have seen a new aprroach, that was mentioned above, once you are in the fort, before clearing the inside, walk 'through' the closed gate (yes you can walk right through it) without aggroing anyone and kill whatever you can find, dont light the torches, tho I kept threatening to on teamspeak, hehe, one person on each ballista that can cast on enemies coming thru the gates and fire the ballist's on the black target zones on the mini map..., then just defend as the gates are attacked. Definitely need a good healer with some secondary healers as well (elem/monk is what we had)... ooo, if you walk around the outside of the fort, before entering, you can take out the giants with ranged weapons and AOE from the elementalists, just to soften up the inside defenses. Pulling and not aggro'ing too many at once is important... I dont know what to do when a Dolyak group randomly materializes behind your group on the bridge except die like we did and start over *sigh*

How good the people are is the root of why I hate this LV. Something about the community... I think it's a week one myself. It's an awesome out-of-game community, but the in game, I just haven't seen the same buddies getting together ofter. Pretty linear story, and everyone I've teamed up with and tried re-teaming with moves at a different pace. Maybe it's actually great and I just haven't had much luck.
Coming back from that tangent... the ultimate example of how the intelegence (which is more how you work with a team more than how uber you can solo) of the players decides how you'll win is Elonas Reach. That level is EASY, insanely easy, but ONLY with an intelligent team. You can have a crappy setup, but if everyone pulls and multiple groups are never agroed the level is cake. But if people are rushing ahead or not fleeing at the appropriate time, the level is dam near impossible.

exactly why my guild maintains a 24/7 teamspeak server.
most if not all who are teaming are in channel, even if they dont talk, they can listen and reply via typing. Has made the game much more enjoyable, and has gotten me into a game type i would never have bought/played

i was stuc in this mission for mounth! but i know now the way 2 pass it.
first u need 2 kill the 6 jades outside ( before killing the boss).
then when the larg groups are coming take them down wiht the cata'..rest of the team need 2 stay with the king.
now after the big goups are dead all need 2 go and stay wiht king. then traper put sone traps on stairs ( 1 trapper is good) and u just wait.
here and there some 1 need 2 run 2 cata' and shoot some...but its easy. u just need 2 stay near the king and kiling every 1 that coming. they coming in groups of 2-5 so its not so hard.
i remember when we try 2 split groups and put man on cata' and so we faild! dont do it.

Yeah, the strat above is good, but the real secret is spending 40 minutes putting a good team together... one where everyone playing is going to listen to commands of a single leader. It was easy when everyone playing was decent or better. But don't get impatient... one bad player can mess it all up. All good players and a good team build make it easy. Even Mo's aren't work taking if they don't follow a plan.
