Teamwork wins the game

I have grouped with loads of people and found that only the ones (pardon for discriminating but usually the older players) who have a strong sense of teamwork get the hardest missions/quests done the quickest.

In my opinion, a group should have a single leader, not necessarily the guy who pulled the group together, but maybe a guy who did the mission already, or is just a good leader in general. I'm always annoyed at the groups where there's a constant barrage of commands that contradict eachother, because the team can fall apart like that.

Secondly, there should be a single ranger designated to call targets. I say ranger because rangers have a very good view of the battlefield, and can reach targets that the usual warrior callers can't, which makes calling the target that much more effective. A warrior's view is usually not the entire field, and he can't switch targets on the fly like a ranger, in cases where it becomes essential that he can do so.

Once you have a target caller, pretty much everybody agrees take out the healers, then the casters, then others. But that's only a part of it. Maybe not everybody follows the target, so multiple enemies start taking the damage. If you find that one guy is almost dead, don't start attacking the nearly-full health healer that was targeted. Target the quick-kill monster, so the healer can't heal it, then switch back to the healer (for example).

A note for people with ranged weapons: if you're being hurt, run away. Especially if you're a monk. Get away from your attacker, and run toward the nearest warrior, for example. The monster will hopefully turn to attack him while you become safe, and more able to help the warrior you just sent an extra monster after. I do this with my ranger all the time, and very seldom does it fail me.

At various points in the game you'll find people who want to form a party that will run away from all monsters to get to a certain location. Unless that location is VERY close, which it probably isn't, you will die. Rangers might not because they have lots of speed/avoidance skills, but even then you're unlikely to survive. The only time to run is if you don't feel like attacking monsters that are preoccupied with fighting something else, or from those nasty sand worms in the desert, which i personally could never kill to this date. And if you do end up running, keep close together. It ups your survival chances by a little bit.

On pulling and trapping, do it. Do it a lot. Rangers are the best pullers, unless you have henches, because of their ranged weapons and traps. If a ranger sets up a row of traps, or even a single trap, it can make all the difference (especially dust trap). Pulling is not as effective against ranged fighters, but it can be a life saver when done right.

A final word, and I apologize for the long-winded post, learn from your mistakes. Just today i ran across a guy who decided he wanted to blame everything except himself for his frequent deaths. Granted, the monk should be able to heal him, but a monk can only do so much at once, and can't tend to the whim of a player who charges head first into a big swarm of monsters ahead of the party. He didn't realize that his death was his own doing, and didn't learn from his mistake. Don't imagine you are the best player around, no matter how good you are. Take to heart what I've said, but its best learned through experience. Anybody who can add to or refute any of my claims with good reasoning, or provide other insight, I would appreciate as I am CERTAINLY not the best player around (though i like to fancy myself a pretty good strategist). Any other replies are always welcome, too. Also, since this is my first post, if anybody with a like mind for teamwork (whether your ideas of teamwork agree with mine or not) wants to play some time, I'm usually playing as Garrett Gervasius, a R/Me20 (3 cheers to anybody who can guess where the name comes from. People have congratulated me on my "original" name. It's not original at all :-) )

I gave ya a 5. Great post and sumed up a lot of the problems that i've found when partying with the public. You should post this in the Guides
section of this website so you can get some credability.

very well written.. Ya know to this day I have not seen a Ranger use a trap..... I have grouped with a few but they never used traps. Would be very interesting to see how they work and devise a strategy from them.

Re: Teamwork wins the game

Cool thanks guys for the good reviews. I forgot to mention one thing, though, which is that the team will work even better together when the leader complements anybody who does something really well or otherwise deserves praise. It makes them feel like they're an important part of the team. Nobody in the team should insult anybody else in the team, no matter how bad what they did is. An insult tears apart the team into those who agree with the insulter, and those who will protect the insulted. It hurts the team more than a complement helps.

And I think I will do what you said and put this in guides, along with this new bit I added.

Thanks

Re: Teamwork wins the game

yeah i put that link in when i added this as a guide by the same name, i just think that a lot of that is more evident than morale and that it needs reiteration. people who insult their own team annoy me more than anybody else.

Re: Teamwork wins the game

teamwork always wins the game but problems with it are how many people want to be leaders which causes confusiesion. the best thing to do would be to chose the player with the most background on that mission in particular, and allow them to lead your team. another mistake some people make is their need to insult people which causes many problems, it is highly possible that later on you might need your friends help. and always remember to bring a varity of player character types.

One of the only problems that i found in teamwork is that if im trying to collect money or items to sell, it can become very difficult, many creatures you kill in gruoups dont have any money or items, but if you kill them alone you will find your results very different. i have personaly tested the theory, and so have many others. so if you want to get many objects and money, then hunt alone. But if you want to get to the more expensive items that belong to stronger creatures, then you might have to join or create a team.

P.S. Please give me a good ranking

a good trapper is a great help, and having at least 3 trappers is the only way to run an underworld mission (IMHO). patience and trapping and pulling, all excellent tools that will save you huge death penalties.

Re: Teamwork wins the game

Hahaha, I love trapping in UW. Last time we did this we had one monk, one warrior and six trappers. We would rig an entire hallway or those stairs and then lure. My brother (the warrior) would stand behind all the traps so if they do survive he can finish him off, but they rarely survive ;).
I tried to make screens but they were not nice enough. But its fun to see masses of traps getting triggerd and then you see the enemy trying to get out of this minefield... haha, he does not stand a chance :D.

[EDIT] We completed the first quest too, but then someone triggered the quest where you have to do something with immortal creatures, which are like those bulls but then bigger and immortal. When you trie shooting them it says 'you cant harm this creature' or something :S.
Anyway, thats how we died, and because I live in Europe we do not get lots of go's in the UW.[/EDIT]

Re: Teamwork wins the game

As far as I experienced not the older ones are more common team-availible but the more patient and non-selfish people tend to be a good teamplayer.Nevertheless there always will be young players who cant integrate in a group and those who can.

Re: Teamwork wins the game

The most important feature of the party is the leader, closely followed by the group as a whole. Can you work well together and isn't your leader some aggressive punk, then your team will do fine. Atleast this is my experience. Of course it helps to have good players, but thats not the most important factor.

Ah and i never complimented the initial post. Good work, though you somewhere mentioned that a ranger cant get away all the time. I have saved many partys by running away :). Though I like to call it, retreat and regroup :).

One more thingy, whenever you see someone in trouble (only if you can handle getting hit ^^) throw yourself in the fight and let the enemy hit you. Sometimes this ends up realy painfull but YOU are not important the group is :).

Re: Teamwork wins the game

Sorry I didnt read it, but I take their word it is great. I just want to say about trapping:

No one actually use trappers when they are their IN the group. I have go a few places and taken traps but no one uses them because it involves luring them over a line. The warriors just run in and dont make use of traps, if they did I think people would see trappers alot more.

I went UW with 8 trappers. Nothing survived. Its so much fun but i've gone off UW, like FoW more :)... WHEN we have favour.

Europe favour = 0. The only time Europe get favour is 1am - 6am. DOH! O_O

Re: Teamwork wins the game

Yeah, that sucks... As a ranger you can use traps in a fight too. Just use a 'they miss me' stance and then putt it in front of em :). Works, though not all the time ^^.
