Does it cost extra to have separate characters?

Stupid question, I know.

Does it cost money to have seperate heroes? Better yet, does it cost money to log on each time?

I really do feel like an idiot for asking...its just that someone mentioned this at SC and I'm getting worried that my statement is going to be a shocker.

And let me tell ya, if they charged for each character, I'd be in a world of hurt as I'm still new enough to be playing 12-20 different characters as i try to figure out what I like. :-p

You only pay to have an account and play COH. You can play up to a believe 8 toons per server, and there are 11 servers. So thats a total of what, 88 toons you can have and play at once. No extra charges involved. By the way, there are no silly or stupid questions asked around here as people are not berated or poked fun at. They keep a peaceful running ship around here. :-)

It costs $14.95 American Dollars to have an account. There are no other fees aside from what your Internet Provider might charge, which, more than likely, is just your monthly internet fee.

You can play 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, aside from the times they are down for maintenance. As was stated earlier, you have access to 11 Servers (assuming you're on the US servers, it's 4 on the European side). On each server you can create 8 characters.

Unless the price goes up at some point, City Of Heroes charges you that money to access the game. What you do there as far as character creation is up to you.

And that's totally not a silly question at all. I was concerned about that as well. There are MMOs that charge extra for more characters.

Here's another billing question, to bring the thread back on track:
Is it possible to suspend your account, avoid paying (and forgo access) for a month or more, then return and find your toons still safe & sound?

After a solid year of CoH, I might be ready for a break. As it is, I keep playing, knowing that I'm paying whether I play or not.

And another note... I heard that CuppaJo stated that you get "one point" per month payed, and at the time that they release beta testing for CoV, anybody who has 12 sucessive points is automatically in for beta testing. I will see if I can hunt that down and verify it.

Apparently it's confirmed in the CoH newletter, the direct quote is...

Villains Approaching!
July is heating up and so is work on City of Villains, the highly anticipated stand-alone sequel to City of Heroes. The kickoff of the closed beta test for CoV is just around the corner, and excitement is at an all-time high. As announced previously on the PlayNC web site, we have a program planned whereby long-time CoH subscribers will be guaranteed a spot in the beta. A vast number of dedicated fans have been with us for 12 months or longer. Due to the nature of beta testing, the invitations will be sent in waves. So if you don’t receive an invitation right away, don’t lose heart. Everyone who qualifies will be invited eventually.

Thats good to hear since I will be deploying to the Middle East in September and will be without COH access (gasp) for about 4 months. I have been meaning to pose that question to the Devs on the main site.

You have to pay for some time when you create your account and it ads an extra month to what you pay for. You can change how often your billed after that if you want.
