Hi!
plz take a while and answer some of these questions, the reason for these questions is that i might buy this game and i wanna know some stuff about it.
-What to do in game except missions?
-Can u have some kind of base?
-Are u always dressed like a hero?
-Do u use items? e.g weapons/armor
-Can u have some kind of mounts?
-Are there dungeons?
-Is it slow lvled? e.g how long to get to lvl 10 .
At last , some general info plz..

Well you can hunt villains on the street, you can talk to other players, you can go to Paragon Dance Party.
-Can u have some kind of base?
Not yet, but I believe this option is coming in Issue 5
-Are u always dressed like a hero?
Well no, once you hit level 20, after getting another costume slot, you can make another outfit that looks like T-Shirts and Jeans. New costume slots at 30 and 40 also.
-Do u use items? e.g weapons/armor
Yeah.
-Can u have some kind of mounts?
No. Unless you can some how jump on someone else's head and be able to stay there.
-Are there dungeons?
If you consider running in Sewers, Tunnels, Underground Labs dungeons then yes.
-Is it slow lvled? e.g how long to get to lvl 10 .
No its pretty damn quick, it kind of slows down in the higher levels.
At last , some general info plz..

What do u mean by issue 5? some kind of update?
That's the newest update coming to City of Heroes. There will be a new zone, several new villain groups, a new monster. Find it here!

Unfortunately no.
-Are u able to change body apperance? when u make the character for example?
Yes they give you options of what you want your character to look like, and they also give you the ability to chage the shape of your characters face, body, and legs.

There are taskforces, a chain of \"missions\"
You can go street hunting.
Lot of players organize contests and other events to can join.

Yes. And as you level up you will get more outfits, so you can have a fighting suit, and regular suit, or anything you want. And switch between them anytime you want.

No. You have no inventory. Each of the different heroes types have their weapons, but you just have them. No shops or camping mobs to get stuff.

Like a horse? No. You can fly, super jump and teleport, so there is no need for it.

Leveling goes pretty smooth. Now that I did a many times, it goes faster of course. But I think I can get to lvl 10 in one day without too much effort. The rate does slow down, but it is still not too hard to make it all the way to 50. Wild guess, but something like 200 hrs maybe.

1st off welcome to the site. I'll do the best I can to answer...help me out if i miss something peeps.
-What to do in game except missions?
You can hunt the streets. Chat with friends. Run around using various travel powers. Toy with the powers you have.
It sounds more or less the same I know...but it's well done and is more fun than other MMORPG for me. I've spent hours of game time just socializing or playing around with my powers :).
-Can u have some kind of base?
Not until City of Villains comes out....then we get bases I believe.
-Are u always dressed like a hero?
You can dress like whatever you want to start. At lvl 20 you start getting new costumes as well....up to 4. If you wanted you could roleplay and make one of these costumes your "civilian clothes".
-Do u use items? e.g weapons/armor
This game really shines here. THERE ARE NO STATISTICS. At least no hard ones you modify.
It's simpler and more versitile. Weapons and armor are determined by your actual powers.
Then instead of stat modding items you buy enhancements for each power. You can specifically enhance each power in a variety of ways. Read up a lil on the different kinds of enhancements availible.
I like this much better than buying weapons or armor and like I said its much more versitile.
-Can u have some kind of mounts?
You don't need mounts because at lvl 14 you can get your "travel power". Mounts seem like the wimpiest idea ever compared to these.
Though we do hope one day in the future to get vehicles I'm not sure how likely it is.
-Are there dungeons?
Dungeons are all instanced missions. No need to wrry about a group farming your fun.
-Is it slow lvled? e.g how long to get to lvl 10 .
Well like any MMORPG it slows down as you go. LVL 1-10 goes pretty fast. Lvl 10-20 takes maybe double or triple the time.
It's quite fun though. Also after lvl 10 You can sk people or exemplar down.
Sk brings a person up to your realtive lvl. So if your lvl 20 and you sk a lvl 10 they would be lvl 19 effectively. They just wouldn't have the extra moves you get along the way.
Exemplaring lets higher lvls go down as far as they want to help friends while earning cash or burning off debt. You can exemplar down to lvl 10 from 50 :P.
At last , some general info plz..
KK about debt. When you die (it happens to us all) your penalty is that you take some experience debt. This is just experience that you have to burn off before you can lvl normally.
HOWEVER 50% of all experience will always go towards you lvling. unless your exemplared.
If your exemplared all exp goes towards lvling.
In this game...your initial moves are useful throught the game. They scale in dmg as you lvl. You get fancier moves that you will want to use yes. But those powers never seem to become obsolete.
Creating new character and going lvls 1-10 to see how the play is fun and can keep you entertained for a long time.
KK now lets talk about power sets a lil.
Each Archtype or class has several power sets. A primary and a secondary. These can be mixed and matched in any way to create quite a variety of characters. You choose powers from these sets however you wish...though you have to be certain lvls for further powers than the starter ones to open up.
You get new powers every even lvl. 2,4,6 for example.
Also in addition to these normal powers you get "power pools".
These are general powers availible to all heros. These include both team and self oriented. They also include the travel powers such as flying, super jump, super speed, and teleport.
Adds further versitility to hero makeup though of course there are certain powers you prolly want to have.
Next lets talk enhancements.
Every odd lvl you get 2 slots. You slot each individual power...which starts with 1 slot and can have a maximum of 6. This lets you enhance which power you want when you want and how you want...instead of general hero enhancement thru stats.
These slots are where you put enhancements.
For example say you have a power named energy blast. It has 6 slots. for each of those slots you can further enhance aspects of that power.
you can make it more accruate, make it hurt more, increase the range, reduce the amount of power it uses, reduce the reuse time, and for this particular power you can also increase its knockback effect.
Granted its an attack power with only occasional knockback...but the option to enhance it is still there.
For a healing power you might reduce the power cost again, increase the healing effectiveness or increase range.
You can enhance a powers defensive capabilities, resistance towards dmg, how long it holds and enemy in place, etc.
If there is an effect on a power....anywheres from accuracy and dmg to how fast it recharges, to running speed, to how long a target stays confused or how much it slows them. you cna enhance it.
On a different note I'd like to mention that each of the archtypes "classes" is fun to play and rewarding in its own way.

I am truly disappointed in you all! All these responses, and not a single person mentions the Arena! If you like person vs. person action, and want to test your powers against another hero or a team of heroes, you can go to the Arena. No experienced can be gained there, no debt incurred, just battle for fun.
And also, there are costume contests! As mentioned before, you can earn up to 4 costume slots for your hero... and if you have one that you think is sweet, you can enter it in one of the many costume contests that happen daily in Atlas Park. You can win influence (hero money) for your character, which comes in handy for buying things like costumes and enhancements.

Ok...here's the best answers I can give:
-What to do in game except missions?
There is street hunting. Basically wandering around zones (City zones or hazard zones) and taking out bad guys that are doing bad things, like purse snatching, drug dealing, etc etc.
There are also Task Forces which were mentioned in another post, which are long chains of team missions that end in a big Arch Villain battle usually resulting in a good amount of experience for the whole thing.
There are also Trials that result in some good rewards as well.
EDIT: OH! And Badge Collecting! I didn't even think about that. Lots of people love to get collections of Badges going. You can take a look at the CoH Badges section to the left under Game Info as well to get an idea of what I'm talking about. They don't really do anything for the most part aside from put a little title under your name, but they're pretty cool lookin.

Supergroup bases will be introduced to City of Heroes when City of Villains is released. It's unknown if you will be required to purchase CoV for the supergroup bases or if it will be part of a CoH update.
-Are u always dressed like a hero?
You can design your costume however you want. One of my characters is very \"plain clothes\". Also, as others stated, at higher levels you get additional costume \"slots\". At level 20, 30 and 40 you run fairly simple missions to get them. So you could have 1 \"civilian\" outfit and 1 \"hero\" outfit if you wanted when you reach level 20. Or you can just go with all different hero costumes if you want.
-Do u use items? e.g weapons/armor
CoH was basically designed to be \"loot free\". However, you do pick up Enhancements that you can add to your powers that will help with damage, or range, or accuracy or a plethora of other things. They're kinda like items, but not really.
-Can u have some kind of mounts?
Like someone said, there are travel powers that you can gain that kind of eliminate the need for mounts. I think they avoided mounts as it makes it a little too \"fantasy game\"-ish instead of being in the superhero genre.
-Are there dungeons?
A lot of the magical oriented villain groups tend to have dungon like bases, as well as cave missions. However, again, to keep it more in the Superhero genre rather than the Fantasy genre, the mission maps are more like Warehouses, Office Buildings, and so forth.
-Is it slow lvled? e.g how long to get to lvl 10 .
Depending on the type of character you play, who you're teaming with (or if you're going solo) and a lot of factors, level 10 could take a few hours or a couple days. For most people, it's around a day. Leveling is pretty quick in this game, in my opinion, but not too fast where it feels \"too easy\".
At last , some general info plz..
The best place you can get general info in from our Powers Section, Zones Section, Screenshots, Villains section and so forth that's all under \"Game Info\" to the left of your browser window. I actually did a lot of reading on this very site before I decided to purchase the game.
There's also a lot of cool back story stuff on the main City of Heroes site at http://www.cityofheroes.com.

i agree that this is the way forums should be... we don't tolerate any kind of flaming or what not... when i 1st came to this site i was a clueless newbie *grin* but thru the info on this site and the helpfulness in the forums i learned how to actually play the game well.... so we like it when new people come here b/c in a few months those people will be helping the next batch of new people... so if you get the game come here w/ any questions you have at all
also triumph is an american server, but we do have forums for those EU servers (not to many members from there yet but we are working on it *grin*)
and one last thing about the finances... paying the monthy fee in fact saves you money b/c you will become addicted to this game and never go out and spend your money any more *grin*

If you Decide to Buy the game and join the ranks of defiant Ill be more than happy to show you around and give you a little help im still trying out new builds so im not going anywhere at the moment. Just PM me your toons name and ill add you to my friends list.
Oh yea I just remebered on the European Servers there is a radio station. If your ever under Atlas Statue (Which your bound to see alot of on the way to lvl 50) then you will see mass crowds of pople dancing around the Dj's.
