| Single Stick: Put it in DIMM B1 |
|
|
|
On that board there are 3 slots for ram. The slots are as follows from left to right moving away from the cpu:
DIMM A2(black) DIMM A1(blue) DIMM B1(blue)
But in the manual they are listed as:
DIMM A1 DIMM A2 DIMM B1
Either way, on the particular board that I worked with, it was only comfortable with A SINGLE STICK of RAM if you put it in DIMM B1. I tried putting a single stick in A1 and A2 but kept getting crashes when getting in games(Halo, Unreal 04). So I put it in B1 and it has never crashed since.
Which exact A7N8X do you have?
And what exact model power supply do you have?
What model number ram is it?
What is the temp of your system at load?
NOTE: Be very careful when changing out hardware. I have personally fried and watched my friends fry hardware by tinkering with things. You know the drill.

oops didnt realize time thought it was later as my kids woke me up :(
any way i tried it with 1 stick in (512) it stoped crashing BUT its SOOOOOO choppy in most places its not fun to play
so what alternatives do i have?
im not prepared to buy 1 stick of a gig of ram just so a game will run as this is unacceptable seeing as i allready have a gig of ram in my machine that other things are happy with
how can they release a game to people that mostly have 2 sticks of ram in their machines only to find out it doesnt work with them both?

wait wait wait ...you didnt tell me you were using multiple sticks of ram. I guess I should have assumed that. Name all the sticks of ram you have. Size, capacity, speed, brand, cas latency, double or single sided.
When you said "not in dual channel" I was thinking you were using one stick of 1 gb.
The most economical thing you can do is purchase another 512 the same model# as your other one and run the game with 1 gig of ram in dual channel. On medium graphics. And maybe the texture and one other thing on high. I played the demo for 3 weeks with the following specs:
a7n8xe deluxe
1 gig ram (2x512) Corsair 400mhz cs2.5
sata seagate 80gb hd
6800 regular
I found that I could only play on medium graphics without lag. But it played well.
Then I upgraded my whole system to athlon 64, x800xl, sata NCQ seagate 80gb

Hey,
Having similar probs with crashes. My game locks up/crashes apparently at random and usually reboots. I've tried all the usual fixes (updates, settings, shutting down running processes etc.). My questions is this: Could it be a ram prob as I only have 768 MB ram?
AMD Barton 2500+
Abit NF7-S mobo
Geforce FX 5900 XT 128 MB

You should be able to run the game on medium, with aa and af off with the ram you have. The crashes you are getting are not a result of the amount of RAM you have.
What RAM configuration are you running?
And waht is your cpu temperature at load?

Hi,
I'm not quite sure about the ram configuration (how do you tell if you're a complete computer idiot?). I have two sticks of DDR SDRAM. One 512 MB and one 256 MB. The program CPU-Z says it's 'single channel' and the frequenzy is around 166, but I'm not really sure what that means.
My temperatures at the moment are system temp about 35 c (40-50 during gaming) and the CPU temp is around 40 (50-70) during gaming. I find it hard to believe that this is the problem because I've been running Doom 3, Half-Life 2 and Unreal Tournament 2004 with no probs whatsoever.

Sounds like its disconecting on you, try disabling any firwalls before connecting, sp2 will auto enable a firwall on install, some virus scanners include there own; try disableing virus software as well, there are some connection issues with this game, hardware and software, as far as software, I find scanners, fragmenting, background software, bad network settings, can cause an issue.
I have read severall of johnpenns posts, he has a good grasp of computers, I would follow his suggestions as well.
