Was I wrong?

so last night i quit my SG.... they had held my spot when i left the game for a few months (the leader let every one know not to kick me b/c i was away)... i was really looking forward to geting back into game w/ them (and our alliance) b/c it was such a good group... i would be logged in for no more than 5 min b/f getting at least one team invite after saying my hellos.... they were great, everyone knew their place on the team and we smashed thru missions w/ a death happening every now and then... people would chat all the time on our global chanel and things were grand.... now since i've been back i've teamed w/ them 2 times... once w/ the person who got me into the group (who i try to team w/ when ever she is on) the second time was a team of 3 and i was ex down to their lvl, we did one mission together b/f both of them said they had to log... it was like pulling teeth to get that invite and have not had once since...
so a lot of drama has been happening w/ our alliance, people unhappy from our sg about the actions of the constant pl lvling our allies have been doing... and well our sg leader called a meeting last night, she asked us if we had any concerns about the group and the alliance... i mentioned my feeling of being left out and how often i had teamed w/ them and well i kinda expected something (her saying she would try to include me would have been enough) but all i got from her was her asking the others if they had this problem.... i sat there for over 30 min listening to them say the same stuff about the alliance over and over (only 5 of us from the sg were actually on) and i finally couldn't take it any more.. i sent her a tell explaining that i really felt like i didn't belong to this sg any more and was thinking about quiting... her response? "we would really hate to loose you, you are a really good player" for some reason that really struck me wrong (ok pissed me off to no end actually) and they decided they were going to make a team w/ just the sg in it.... we had a lvl 32, 37, 44 (me) 27, and a 50... there was no way the lvls were going to work, so the sg leader asks me what kind of alts i had! and well that was where i made my decission... i told them not to worry about working me in, sent a tell to the leader saying i was quiting, then flew off... i then quit the sg, deleted all the global chats related to them and removed the sg leader from my global friends list (she added me at the beginning of the meeting)

so if you have read all of this babble could you please give me some feedback... was i wrong to act how i did... is there some sort of etiquette for quiting your SG? was there a way i could have handled this differently or was my SG leader just a really bad people person?

Re: Was I wrong?

Hmmm prolly coulda been handled slightly better but it sounds like the SG went strait down the tubes.

I Don't rely on my SG list for invites however so it matters little to me. I global every good player that isn't a jerk after asking.

Usually I have an alt for a global person on and my list grows daily.

So...for me...SG aare different costume color...and for fun.

Like one sg i'm in. TheLegionofCatGirls!! :P.

It has a channel made exclusivley for it :P.

But no i don't think your wrong really.

I think you did the right thing. Why hang on to lost memories? People move on, and they won't shed a tear for you. Unfortunately, now you have to start looking for a busy new group. Team with a few random people, or with some players you know from GameAmp, and I am sure you end up in a good group again. The game is still very much alive, just you SG apperently died.

Re: Was I wrong?

I think you did the right thing.... I was a bit of a skeptick in regaurds to SGs at first but I ran in a random group of peaple while doing missons. We all kinda seemed to click it was great everyone played well and we had a blast chatting back and forth. This same group continued playing together for the next week and now we have all been invited to the same SG (belonging to one of the original 4 of us).Now we are all still together except our team rosters are regularly full and still getting request from within the SG. If there is a slot open and average joe wants help we invite him and on we go. I guess my point is that no matter the lvls our the ATs in group we find a way to see it through and we have a blast doing it! and if I were part of a group that had that at one time but some how lost it, I would seriously be searching for the magic again. So I support your decision to move on, and if you find your self on triumph look me up I will intrduce you to a few good peaple and you see what iam talking about!

Re: Was I wrong?

It sounds to me like you quit rather abruptly. You stuck with them for so long not just because they were good players, but also because they were your friends. Well, at least some of them were your friends, anyway. Maybe you should have stuck around long enough to find out whether your friends were still in there somewhere. Maybe they just aren't on at the same time as you anymore. I know it would take more than one bad meeting (or thougtless remark) to make me walk out on friends like that; it would take a long pattern of such dissapointments.

Re: Was I wrong?

NO! BAD! That's a very bad Jeni! Just kidding.

Were you wrong? No, I highly doubt it. I've up and quitted 3 different Super Groups, 2 of whichs I never gave reasons why. 1 SG I was apart of I never even realized I was in it until I up and quit, I was fooling around with the options above the chat window and there I was in a SG. I don't even remember the name of it, so it was no big lost for me or them. Second one I was in I left it because I didn't feel right running around with the name The Flaming Firery's. I don't know what a Firery is. I left and took half of the team with me to form my own SG called The Crimson Gaurd. Like I said I took half the Firery's because the 3 people I originally asked to join me took their friends from the Firery's and they were all real life friends. Yeah I felt kind of out of place a whole team of real life friends and me. (sounds like a sitcom!) I ended up quitting The Crimson Guard cause my computer crashed and I was out of comission for about 1-2 months (and it was hell!) so when I came back on there were just 5 people on my team out of the original 15, whole team up and left to play World of Warcraft. Except for one friend who left my SG and joined another because the whole team was gone. I don't blame her either, so I left a message saying 'Since everyone is gone I'm making a new SG and if you guys ever come back on look me up some time.'

So here I am, the one man wrecking crew leader and only member of The Hero of the 5th Column! So don't feel like you were in the wrong, because you had a very good reason the Group just wasn't clicking like before.

Re: Was I wrong?

Well...We all talk about in-game etiquette on the site, and we all gripe about the issues that we have with other players, but in the end, you should do what makes you feel best about playing. If you're in a SG surrounded by people that don't make you feel welcome, then find a new SG. You don't owe anyone anything. Plus, you can still team with the folks that are in the old SG. My opinion of the situation is that you shouldn't worry about your decision. If you feel that you did the right thing, then it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. It's not their character or account. I just hope you find a new group to run with. Good luck, Jeni.

Re: Was I wrong?

Heh,

Boy, am I the wrong person to give advice to about SG. I have been in two groups in the past year, and am the last one standing in both. On Freedom, Whimcycle is the last playing member of Anarcho-Syndicalist. Everyone moved over to WoW so they could complain about the game play there.

On Triumph, Crannberry reaps the fruits of his labors. Quit a SG? Heh, I have them all to myself!

But all silliness aside, and you must understand how hard that is for me to do, YOU DID RIGHT! If you are not happy, then let the unhappiness go, lest it consume you and fill you with darkness. I personally refuse to do stuff or associate with people that make me unhappy. Life is too short and full of pain and sorrow you can't avoid, why go out of your way to inflict more on yourself? {Note: Masochists are free to ignore the last statement.}

So, go do something that will relax you. Put any bad feelings you have behind you, you were right in your actions. And if you still feel out of sorts about this, go in game and beat the snot out of some baddies.

Re: Was I wrong?

thanks guys... i needed that (god i love this place!)

also on a side note to lord X.... it wsn't just that night... i had been having doubts since i returned, i was just set off that night b/c the sg leader asked if we had any problems going on and i informed her of mine and she just took it w/ a grain of salt

i do still plan on teaming w/ at least one member of that sg (i could never get rid of her!)

i have decided to go SGless for a bit though... just get back into the swing of things and maybe meet some new people from randome teaming (no really it can be fun)

Re: Was I wrong?

no i dont think u were wrong. i quit 2 supergroups, my first one because it wasnt an active group. my second, i had issues with the leader, he would tell me that he needs me, if i was on a team, i was told to quit the team and tell them my SG leader needs me. i see no reason to leave a team hangin, there shouldnt be something THAT important that it cannot wait a little while. heck there were afew times i was on a TF, and wasnt about to start over. many a time he requested my presence, couldnt decide on what he wanted to do, and told us to go team for a while.

then one night, he said he wanted to talk to me and went on to tell me how he wanted to demote me to leut from leader, that he didnt think i was being a good leader, and how all these other leaders helped him. that was it for me, after he logged i quit the group and sent him an email, after discussing it with a good buddy of the same SG.

thats when i moved onto my current SG, with a team buddy, who ive become close friends with. we have in depth conversations bout our RL's. im happy where i am now, granted my old sg lead and i just had a misunderstanding, hes canadian, and his english wasnt the best.

Like in rl, ppl grow apart, ive lost some friends, its hard, but you deal. make new friends. thing is, your paying to have fun, do what makes u happy. i quit the second group because it wasnt fun, it was all, come when i call, and get a PL we want to be top SG when arena comes, and we need influ for bases. pfft, im here to have fun, and escape the humdrum of real life.

lol go on wit your bad self!!

Re: Was I wrong?

I feel ya.

I was gone for a month and half, and just came back two weeks ago. On my return I regularly find no more than one person online in my SG. There used to be at least 5 - 6 on a slow night. I think SG's just go thru cycle's. They start up, get active players in, and then other games come out and other life things happen. Before too long (4 or 5 months) the SG is a shell of it's former glory. This is the second SG I've been in, and the same happened to the first.

So, just run around and make new friends, and you can start all over. :)

Re: Was I wrong?

Personally I think SGs are overrated. Good ones are the exception, not the rule. I have joined a few and quit most of them. I usually found myself to be the only one logged on, or unable to team with the members because there were not enough near my level at the time. Whenever I've joined an SG it has been with the hopes many have expressed in this thread: a steady supply of teaming buddies. Unfortunately that has almost never been the case in my experience. If you want a cool-sounding SG name to appear under your hero's name, go start one yourself with the name you like. If you want a good team, fill up your friends list, or just grab folks at random. Yes, you run into some jerks that way, but jerks are just as pervasive in SGs as they are in random world.

Re: Was I wrong?

I think Super Groups are mainly for fun anyway. No massive guild events going on like in other MMORPGS, so kinda pointless in COH. THis may all change when COV comes out though. I am currently in a SG group with only 4 members. Me, my brother, and his two roomates. When my 2 RL friends join I will invite them as well. It is nice to keep it small in some ways and have a really personal setting where you know everyone.

Were you wrong? Nah. My biggest pet peeve from other MMORPGS was the person who left without any explanation or a goodbye. You took the time to accept the invitation, it is your responsibility to at least say goodbye. No need to leave on a negative note. Just say it wasn't working out and it was time for you to move on.

Re: Was I wrong?

I think you had rightous anger that night Jeni. You had to do what you did because you were not being heard, and that is never fair, nor fun.

About level diversity in a SG:
My SG has this rule about alts (you'll see how I tie this back in), that you cannot have more than once character in the SG, unless your main character in the SG has hit level 50. Once hitting 50 you are allowed to create or have an alt recruited into the group. I think this is a positive thing because it promotes leveling towards 50 with your SG. My SG has about 25+ various characters ranging from levels 7-50, and we've only been together for three weeks. I never notice a problem with level diversity other than oh...Bob isn't level 20 yet, so he can't go to Striga, lets pick another mish. I guess the way I see it is, if you are willing to make it work it will.

I kind of lost sight of what I was saying...so I'm just going to nod and smile now.

Re: Was I wrong?

I don't think you were wrong. It's not some job you need to give two weeks notice. It's a group on a game that you don't even talk to anymore. Not life-long friends that know you're every secret. The game is for entertainment purposes, as well a social exercise, so bumps in the road are expected.

Like everyone else here, I have joined many SGs in the past, many that have fallen apart from members leaving to other games, RL problems or even alts-becoming-mains on other servers (I'm bad for this one...still trying to find a main to call my own). Most of the time, I don't leave an explanation because most people don't even know I was on there to being with.

I'm a fairly unknown hero who often solos or teams with my girlfriend or buddy. If we need a big team, I leave that to my girlfriend who has so many friends on every server, it's frightening.

I wouldn't mind finding a good SG to settle with, if I could find a main. Unfortunately, life isn't generous enough to allot me the time I need to play hardcore...

Re: Was I wrong?

I don't think you were nessecarily wrong, per se, but I am slightly confused as to why the comments made were what made you quit. The comments, to me, did not match your response. maybe I missed somthing. Whatever, it's not too important. If you felt uncomfortable, then you had the right to leave. However, I think a direct chat with the leader when you quit would have been more approporiate than sending a messenger.

My view on SGs is self admitidley clingy one. I think of my SGs as (Warning: Bad Analogy coming up) Stock options I hold dear. I feel it's always best to hold on to them, and reap the inevitable profits after a slump. And plus, it shows who in the SG is most dedicated. Oh yeah, and I'm back from my tour. woo-hoo.

Re: Was I wrong?

When Mr. Decimal joined his first SG, I met a couple of great players who became instant members of my friends list. Then they seemed to disappear, no one in the group told me what happened...I kept them on my friend's list and like 6 months later I was just signing on and in my friend's list there was one of my long lost friends...I had quit the SG because they had left, and lo and behold they were both in the military and had been on duty overseas...They had left because they had to!! I don't think you were wrong to leave, there are so many SG's out there!! Besides, how many different lineups of our favorite supergroups in comics were there...I remember distinctly a version of the Fantastic Four, without any of the original four...my point is, just enjoy the game and when you are ready for a SG, go for it!! And if you have to go you have to go...

True enough. And it's not like the X-Men have always contained the original 5. Heck, for a long time, the original 5 were X-Factor, the mutant hunters working out of New York incognito. (Hunting mutants to save them, train them and reintegrate them into society)
