| Hardware Compatibility... |
|

|
I have some, although a small amount, of experience when it comes to upgrading with new hardware. I need to upgrade just so I can play BF2! Here is what I have found, please let me know if this is all compatible with each other, and if I have found some good prices.
MoBo:
Fatal1ty AA8XE (Intel 925 XE chipset)(CPU socket IntelA LGA775) $209.00
CPU:
Intel P4 3.2 GHz LGA775 w/ HT $225.00
Vid Card:
ATI Radeon 9800PRO 256 MB DDR AGP 4x/8x $186.00
RAM:
1 GB (2x512) DDR2 PC-4200 533 MHz $83.00
Grand Total: $703.00 and hopefully something that works!
What do you think? Is it going to work, that is my biggest worry is that not everything is compatible. I am fairly confident that it is, but I just want to make sure. Thanks.
Dont give up what you know, for what you don't understand.

you agp card is not compatible with your motherboard. Also, for that price you definitely could get a better card to run bf2. I will post again on this thread with more advice later. Don't purchase till you let me know exactly what you are getting. This my friend is what I do best.

Dude for 740.00$ total with shipping you could get the following hardware from newegg.com:
Connect3d x800xl
Mushkin 2 gigs (1GBx2) RAM, cas. 2.5, pc3200
MSI Neo4-F Socket 939
Athlon 64 Venice core 3000+
This would totally kick your proposals ass. It would leave it in the dust.
A friend of mine has an intel 3.4 overclocked to 3.7, 2 gigs of DDR2 RAM, an intel pcie motherboard, and an x800pro and we benchmarked our two systems on Counterstrike source's Video Stress Test program @ 1024x786 with aa4x af8x, everything on high and vertical sync off.
My rig:
Connect3d x800xl pcie
1.5GB RAM (2x512)+(2x256)
MSI Neo4 Platinum
Venice 3000+
His rig:
Intel 925x mobo
P4 550 3.4 ghz
2 gb's DDR2 RAM, in dual channel
x800pro pcie
The results:
His system------------> 110 fps
My system-------------> 133 fps
Now here is a further point. Not only would the 9800 fall far short on the stress test at same settings, but the basic 6800 outperforms it by a significant margin on a number of benchmarks I have seen on different games. And the 6800 can be gotten new for under 200$. If I would you I would not get an FX or 9xxx generation card. I would go for x800 or higher or 6800 or higher. But make sure it is pcie. If you are buying a new motherboard you definitely want PCIE supportable board, not AGP. The PCIE is faster.
