Hell's Precipice (sp?)

Is it really that hard of a mission or is it just all of the groups that i am getting stuck with. See all the groups i have been in i we start off well then we get..(i really dont know how far) but "pros" in our groups say we are close to rurik. Then our team falls apart. Some warrior thinks they can solo the rest of the way and runs towards the monsters and gets killed. We only have hench monks because there all of like 3 monks there they are like 5 goups looking for 2 monks.

Anyway do you guys have any helpful hints you could give me for this mission? Or a place that would walkme through the mission? Any help would be awesome.

Thanks
Slax

it isn't that difficult. Try a different group.

Re: Hell's Precipice (sp?)

When you reach the area with the portals and the lava area where enemies keep spawning, continue to kill the things that spawn from the lava. Eventually, no more will spawn.

Afterwards, wait till for the moving enemy patrol near the portals to face the other way from the farthest left portal and quickly take out the phantom guards there. After that, you should take on the patrol before continuing to take on each portal guards.

Re: Hell's Precipice (sp?)

As someone had said earlier, you should fight the monsters as they spawn until they stop. What my group did is run to the opposite side of the path you start from, you'll have a slope advantage and rangers can target and lure key units one at a time for your party to attack. Try not to lure monsters connected to a Group (You'll notice they move together). The hardest thing about this is to find a party with patience. If you need a monk ally, whisper me in any of these names and say you are from Gameamp, i'll grab my monk and support your group.

I got all the way to the lich with one party. Now I know you have to kill him while he is on the center thing. We killed him 2 times on the center thing and he just kept getting all the energy back. Does this sound like a glitch or something?

Re: Hell's Precipice (sp?)

The Lich will come back 2 - 3 times before he finally dies.

Best group I beat the game with:

2 Tanks
2 Nukers
1 Ranger w/ Winter (Important...enemies die real fast)
1 Necro
2 Monks - 1 Monk actually tanked

We destroyed this mission. No deaths, all cooperation. It would help to have everyone on teamspeak or ventrilo to keep everyone on the same page and working together.

Picking the right classes and skills for this mission is very important, but I think the absolutely most important thing is teamwork and listening to each other. The mission can be tough, but you have to work together, don't leave, and don't give up. You can do it.

Re: Hell's Precipice (sp?)

I've *just* (as in 20 mins ago) finished that mission. This is how we did it - team comprised of 1 W/r, 1 W/el 1 N/mo 1 El/w 2 Mo/el, 1 R/n and 1 El/n. I was Mo/e. After the usual drop outs, we had 1 El, the W's, the necro and both monks. We bounced along happily, taking our time, not screwing around, doing things properly (which was a change) when our 2nd monk dropped out, and dropped us right in it as we were about to do the bonus. The team knew we didn't stand much of a chance with a crappy healer (me) and what remained of the team. We gave it a try anyway. We kicked some serious rear on that mission. You DO NOT need 2 or more monks - if you have a smaller party, it takes a little longer as you have to lure, but it's a damned sight easier on the Monk as we don't have as many people to worry about, we don't need to use as much energy healing people who shouldn't need healing (i.e. Ele's who should keep their arses out of the way) and we can concentrate on healing the tanks. Try a team of 4-5 half decent/non mouthy players (why are so many of them lvl 20's?) and take a pure healer - it's doable first time. Just take your time, CALL TARGETS, and keep your healer alive. That was *easily* the best run I've done/seen/been part of in the game so far.

Re: Hell's Precipice (sp?)

There's a couple of locations where this mission goes sour on most groups:

Right at first:
A lot of people need to experience the whole dead-titans-spawn-husks-then-hands-'n-fists thing before they realize this. Sometimes this can get out of hand though.

The Sparks:
Once people get the whole Titan-spawn cycle down pat and get into their stride, they meet the Lava Sparks, or Imps. The first couple ain't bad, but there's this swarm of them, 6 or 8 of them, that's partolling. You usually meet up with them at one of the bends in the road. If your party just got cocky from demolishing Titans this usually ends in a restart or some intense Rebirthing.

The Beach:
Or the Portal area, I always see it as a beach, so I'm gonna call it that. Two dangers here, both involve not being patient. One, the critters that spawn fromthe lava. Take these out first, but warriors, please don't run into the lava to do so. Don't try to get them all at once either. If some slip past, no problem.

Next you need to take out small mobs one by one, prefferably leaving the two big patrols till last, then do the Wraiths.
You have to be systematic about this and fight the urge to take on more groups at a time.

After the beach it's Rurik and some more Hands / Sparks.
Ideally take out the hands & Sparks first. Rurik won't always let you though. But generally if you made it this far with a group, it can handle this bit of chaos.

Dealing with the Lich is all about not panicking or rushing of to kill him in the lava. When Titans or Hands appear, deal with them first is my advice.

P.s. if you ever get in a situation where some Fire elementalist is set against bringing Winter because his Mark of Rodgort doesn't work, either make him see sense or accept he has a useless spell with him. Rodgort in no way compensates for all elemental damage becomming Cold damage.

Sorry, this got a bit long, but so's the mission.

P.p.s. Don's start this mission if you can expect to be called to dinner during the next one-and-a-half hours. (Yes it can be done quicker and most certainly has been) I'm counting first time with an unknown group here :-)

Re: Hell's Precipice (sp?)

This mission isn't that hard. The first thing you need is a team that knows how to work together. The second thing you need is the right mix of characters.

Here's what I recommend for this mission.

Two warriors - doesn't matter what type, but they need to be able to dish out a fair amount of damage, while soaking a LOT of it

Two monks - either two pure healers or a healer and a heal/prot hybrid

One Ranger - Ranger brings two spirits: Winter and Favorable Winds, and should have at least one bow with an elemental bowstring.

One AoE Elementalist - This elementalist should be fire-based. An E/Me Echo nuker shines in this role.

One other elementalist - Doesn't matter what this one is. In fact, a direct dmg spiker, or water mage could be very helpful here.

One other character - This is your wild card spot. Use this to take along the necros or mesmers that are asking for parties. It won't hurt, and a mesmer can certainly help against the titans.

First things - the group has to stay together. Warriors in the front, with the monks between the eles and the ranger/other.

Second - only one person calls the target. This should be one of the warriors, but is not required. EVERYONE attacks that target. When that target is dead, move on to the next one (I'll give you the order of importance in a bit). Rinse, rewind, and repeat until all attacking enemies are dead.

Third - give the monks and the eles time to regen energy. The monks keep you healed and the eles are your primary damage dealers here.

Fourth - for each group, let the ranger drop Winter and Favorable winds, then just use his bow skills to shoot things. with Winter, all elemental damage is cold based, which titans are weak to, and with Favorable winds, he's shooting faster. Combine this with an elemental bow and the elite barrage, and you have a nice damage dealer in the ranger as well. This also means you have to give the ranger time enough for the spirits to recharge, which usually isn't a problem.

Basically, this translates to: Take it slow, and stay together.

Order of importance: Contrary to many peoples belief - the titans are actually the least important target there. Top of the list are the sparks. These little imps (literally) have high damage fire spells. Kill them first. next on the list are the Hand/fists of the titans. Then come the Risen Ashen hulks, and THEN come the titans. Last thing you want is to take out all the titans and hulks, and then realize you have to deal with a mob of fists and hulks.

Next, there is a spot on the "beach" near the portals, where there is a lava pool that titans come out of. Stay there and pick off all the titans that spawn from the pool. After a few minutes, no more titans will spawn. You now have a safe area to engage the roving titans near the portals. Have the ranger pull a few at a time, and before long, all that will be left are the portal wraiths.

After that, you fight a boss, follow a path, and fight the Lich (trying not to give too much away here). Once you close the portals, the hardest part of the mission is done, and if you've gotten that far, there is no reason you can't easily finish the rest of it.

This is the same strategy that I used when I took my ranger through the mission, and we went through it in one attempt. Our group had two monks, me (the ranger, two eles, and three warriors. Five minutes into the mission, one warrior goes AFK. We press on, figuring that worst that can happen is we all die, and have to reform in the "town.". We don't die, in fact, we get all the way to the beach without a problem, with people capping the skills along the way. We clear the portals, kill the boss, and get the cutscene. The one Warriors still AFK. Get all the way to the lich, and kill him too.

So, to make a short story long. This mission isn't too hard.
