Hear ye! Hear ye! It is official...NCSoft has decided to merge the City of Heroes and City of Villains franchises into one universe! What does this mean? How does this affect you or future CoX players? Read on and learn...

QUOTE
There is a reason for the rejoicing in Paragon City and the Rogue Isles. It is official - NCsoft has completely merged the two games into one game universe. All current subscribers who only had one of the games (City of Heroes or City of Villains) now have access to the features of both games. Additionally, all City of Heroes and City of Villains games for sale at retail or online will grant access to both games.

The exact reasons are sound ones, and the general drift of this merger is to focus more on the future of the entire franchise, not just one game or the other. That means boys and girls, that the Development teams can build and expand on this fabulous game.

This is old news. They first announced it late last year.

The news on the official site is only about a week old. I'm not sure what they added. I thought they were already merged, but there might be other features that weren't available.

LordX,
They announced their intention to merge them, however the details even then were vague. The article (linked) goes into greater detail as to what that means. a stand-alone game
. While it did not require an additional subion fee to play both a registered version of City of Heroes and City Of Villains, you needed to purchase both versions and install them. No longer. If you went to, for example, a popular online auction site, and bought a valid version of just City of Heroes, with the new merger, you get unlimited access to both, including all features without having to purchase or install additional software.

the thing that happened last year was they did a celebratory gift of the other side to everyone who only had one CoX game, but only if you had it before that day that they did it, not after.

I hadn't seen anything but the GvE Edition for sale anywhere for nearly a year before then. I'm pretty sure only the GvE Edition is published now. It looke to me more like they are finally delivering something they promised long ago.

A LOT of stores had CoH standalone or CoV standalone in their "bargain bins". Quite a few people purchased them in said bins. So for new players who only bought CoH, they now have access to both.
