In another world, in another time, Paragon City had a lot more in common with medieval Europe than the modern city we see today. The land was ruled by a mighty king, whose law was everything. He ruled with fear, using his soldiers to employ heavy taxes and long work days. His only rival was a vicious dragon from the mountains. Every month the dragon would sweep into the town and terrorize its people, only leaving after it had selected its prey. The king was furious that the dragon kept taking his taxpayers, but it wasn’t until the dragon took his daughter that he reacted. The king forced all of the men in the town to join his soldiers to attack the dragon while it was asleep in its lair. The troops marched up the mountain only to find the dragon ready for battle. An epic battle ensued. The dragon, seeking to end the battle, headed straight for the king. The dragon leapt onto the king and slashed his giant claws killing the king. At the same moment an archer, one of the kings few remaining troops struck the dragon in the heart with an arrow. An ancient witch, upset with the terrible abuse the people had suffered used her powerful magic in an attempt to make things even. She fused the souls of the dragon and the king and sent them to our world, sentenced to make-up for their mistreatment of the innocent by saving as many lives as they took. She blessed with them with their combined strengths, the king’s army; and the dragons various abilities but only to be used for good.
