| A Shattered Mirror... |
Dr. Jack Weiss was a brilliant scientist employed by Crey. His specialty: advanced neurochemical engineering. Weiss hypothesized that humans only used a scant 10% of their actual brain power, and that if a person could unlock the hidden potential, they would achieve an awareness and ability that far outshined even the scope of hat so-called super-powered beings could do. Countess Crey was indeed intrested in this. Even if Weiss was half right, Crey could corner a black market in advanced super-soldier engineering.
Weiss was green-lighted for his experiments, but soon found that his Neuroactive process had an unforseen side effect - insanity. In many cases, the labrats became hostile, or unpredictable, or typically, both. He altered his formulas, but acheived no variation in results. It seemed that Weiss had truly reached that threshold of science man was not meant to cross.
But Crey had no intention of stopping.
One night as he laboured away in his lab, he was set upon by Crey security forces who strapped him down. The Vigilants overseeing the doublecross explained to Weiss, that either as a super-soldier serum, or as a sanitizing covert biological weapon, Weiss's formula WOULD be put into use. He was to be the first test subject.
In a process which combined psipulse emmissions, neurochemical manipulation, and electro-cerebral stimulation, Weiss was put through pain no man could or should endure. His pupils dilated and the scientist fell into a catatonic state. The Vigilants merely shrugged and commissioned mafia elements to dispose of the corpse.
But somewhere between Crey Labs and the Garment district, the corpse got away...
